Kurt pulled his knees up to his chest as he leaned into the back of the park bench. The child looked even smaller folded in on himself like that. He closed his eyes tightly as he fought to keep the tears from falling. His shoulders shook with his silent cries. Each breath he sucked in made him feel even more woozy, and all he wanted was someone to understand him. Just as he was about to let himself burst, and let his face be the destination of his hot tears, a gentle hand touched his shoulder. He opened his eyes, looked up find a boy looking down at him, his eyes almost as sad as Kurt's.

The boy sat down on the bench, hesitating before speaking, "Hi. You look really sad. I'm not too good at comforting people, but can I help? I hate seeing people sad."Kurt blinked a few tears out of his eyes and replied
"Do you really want to help? A lot of people just say that but they don't really care if I'm happy."

"Trust me. I like helping, and you look really sad."Kurt began to tell the story to this boy, who nodded along the whole time making small noises of agreement every now and then. As Kurt's story came to a close, the boy looked as if he was going to be the one crying next, but he managed to speak "Come with me. I know something that will make you all better."The boy took Kurt's hand and pulled him through the park, shhing him a bit to keep him from crying. "I promise you'll like it. You just need to try not to cry until we're there."

After a few minutes Kurt looked up to see that they were standing behind a large oak tree. "Just wait here!" instructed the other boy. Within a minute he was walking back. "Cover your eyes!" he called from the other side of the tree. Kurt tentatively lifted a thin hand over his eyes, and leaned in towards the tree."Okay! Here!"

Kurt moved his hand to find the boy holding a little red balloon. A grin so goofy it would make anyone smile was plastered across the boys face. He was clearly quite pleased with himself. "Oh! Thank you" Kurt managed as he pressed a hand to his mouth. He took the balloon and tied it quickly around his wrist, before quickly hugging the other boy.

"So you like it? Are you all better?"

"I do like it. Thank you." Kurt couldn't bring himself to say he was all better. He knew that this feeling might only last a bit, but as long as this boy could stay in his life, Kurt could see some definite motion towards all better.
