Just Her Soul Mate

The first time she meets him, he make her laugh.

He makes her heart thump a little,

like how it did when she first met Roy.

Only this was better.

She wasn't afraid or self-conscious,

not at all like high school.

His smile is nice: friendly and unassuming,

It makes him look innocent,

Almost like a child,

and yet so much more.

He knows when she's hurt,

comforts her when she's sad.

He's someone she can turn to when she really needs a friend.

She can't do that with Roy anymore.

It's like the longer they're together,

the farther apart they become.

They change more and more.

She regrets him more and more.

She regrets the choices she's made with Roy.

But she's stuck now, isn't she?

He looks up every once in a while,

a goofy smile on his face.

She has to duck behind her desk,

so no one can see

the smile breaking across her lips.

She realizes she might love him.

Probably does.

But she pushes the treacherous thoughts aside.

I love Roy, she tells herself

over and over again.

Because she does love Roy,

has loved him since high school.

And Jim...

Well, he's just Jim, isn't he?

Jim can't be anything special...

Just a guy she works with,

Just her best friend,

Just her soul mate...

Is he?
