Her hands were folded on her lap, playing with the border of her black skirt. Her parents had forced her into this skirt, but she didn't feel comfortable in it at all, wishing she would be home soon so she could get herself into frayed jeans. She was taking deep breaths as her parents, sitting next to her, let out a sob while wet tears streamed down her mother's cheeks. She didn't cry. She couldn't even feel sorry for what had happened.
A memory of her younger self crashed her mind. She was in the backyard. It was just a very small piece of grass and dead flowers. Her brother Daniel was sitting on top of her, crushing her face onto the wet grass with her arms crossed on her back.
"Daniel, stop!" she said, "This isn't fun." Her brother's face was placed next to her on the ground and he grinned at her. He seemed to enjoy this just as much as he enjoyed it to light the wings of butterflies on fire to watch them burn and die as they flew. He had done this once and when Maia had gone to tell it to her parents they didn't believe her, no one ever did. Daniel, innocence itself, gifted with a handsome face, inherited their mother's honey skin, how could anyone ever believe he'd do such a sadistic things? It'd be far more easy to blame her, Maia, for it. 'Attention seeking' someone had ever called her. She'd been called worse things than this.
Maia had been kicking and punching around her to get herself freed from her brother's strong grip. She managed to kick Daniel in the stomach.
"Ouch!" Daniel growled, pushing Maia back to the ground, placing his knee in her back. He stood up and suddenly planted his foot on her arm, hard. Maia got stuck in her breath when her arm made a crack.
Her eyes were dull, staring in the distance. She felt ashamed for feeling relieve that it was all over now. He would never come into her room while she was undressing herself, pinching places that would look blue the next day. But no one ever noticing.
A very short first chapter, but just - what do you think?
