They aren't perfect.

They aren't the helpless damsel and her shining knight. They aren't a charming prince and his beautiful princess. They aren't characters pulled from a storybook, heroes and heroines who'd slipped between the pages to drift among modern day mortals. No, they are nothing close to that.

Matt is too rough, all hard edges and scratchy stubble. His words are short, grunted, lacking in eloquence. Windswept, Canadian plains, the backbone of the people, and the country's very spirit seem to be embedded in his bones. He is nothing more than a lumberjack, strong and powerful and altogether human.

Amy is too fierce. She's fire, fast and biting, willing to fight at the slightest provocation. Beautiful and dangerous, her painted lips curve into dark grins, dramatically framing her missing tooth. The overall effect catches every surrounding eye.

She's loud, a show-off, the starkest contrast to Matt's subdued personality. Amy is rowdy, completely unafraid to step outside of society's limits, a fighter. Matt is simply too jagged to fit in his neat little box.

If they were colors, Amy would be red- bright, burning, brilliant, pulling every spotlight straight towards her. Matt would be a dark green, or an ashen gray, something rather awkward on its own but well-suited around Amy's crackling color. Matt's would be easily lost in the fountain of shades, a background paint on the universe's canvas. Amy would be front and center- the lava ready to wipe out humanity's core.

Amy is destruction, chafing at her bonds, and Matt is the boulder holding her back.

No, they aren't perfect. They aren't storybook characters. Amy isn't delicate, Matt isn't heroic. But they're real, they're human. And to them, that's all that really matters.
