Summary: An introspective look at the thought processes of the Organization's number 4, Vexen, almost immediately after realizing what he now was.

Disclaimer: ... why do I need this, anyways? Legal bullshit? Phe--it's not mine!

Vexen stared at his now gloved hands, the echoes of disgust etched on his face. He placed a hand over his chest—over where his Heart once was.

Xehanort--wait, Ansem--no, Xemnas had done this to him. He knew he should be outraged, yet there was nothing; nothing but the shallow echo of the emotions that such a violation of his being should warrant.

In truth, a part of him felt the remnants of gratitude—with his emotions gone, he would be able to carry on any research without those irksome ethics getting in his way. He could find information and experiment without guilt, without sorrow.

Without the joy of a successful experiment, or the pride in knowing that his hypothesis had been right.

He scowled in distaste. It was a heavy price to pay for detached thinking. Part of the reason he WAS a scientist was the thrill of discovery. He could carry on. He had to. The others needed his research and experiments more than ever now.

Because they longed for what they once had, and Xemnas was taking what Vexen felt was the wrong direction.

He dropped his hand and made his way to his personal library, where he kept the research of his old mentor safeguarded. Ansem the Wise had made several breakthroughs in the nature and composition of the Heart.

It was now up to Vexen to continue where Ansem had left off—to go where Ansem wouldn't dare to go.

He wouldn't find the Hearts of Ienzo, Braig, Dilan and Aeleus. No, he would create new Hearts—Hearts for Zexion, Xigbar, Xaldin and Lexeaus.

It would be the last shred of kindness that Even, now Vexen, could offer them.
