The Body of James Wilkes
The first time she saw him he literally took her breath away. He strode into the room so confidently, his hands stuffed in his coat with his scarf covering his neck just so. His piercing eyes scanned the room before settling on her and her hands shook at the intensity in them.
"I need to see a body," he said.
She fought the urge to reach out and touch the soft dark curls that framed his face. "I'm sorry, what?"
"A body. I need to see a body, James Wilkes." He stated, his impatience beginning to shine through his melodic voice.
"Why?" was the only thing she could think to utter as she tried to keep her voice steady. There was something about this man that completely unnerved her.
He sighed, "I'm on a case and I need to see the body. Now."
"I'm sorry, what's your name?" She asked slowly shaking out of her stupor. Who was this man who had so completely caught her off guard with his confidence and beauty?
"Sherlock Holmes," was his simple reply.
"And your authority to see the body?" She questioned not wanting to lose her job for letting some strange man into the lab.
"I'm on a case for Lestrade. You can check if you'd like. Now, will you take me to the body or shall I find him myself?"
"I… yes of course," she readily agreed, not wanting Sherlock to roam around by himself. She didn't know him but she could only assume that would be a bad idea. As she walked to the morgue with him following closely behind she vaguely recalled an earlier call from Lestrade informing her there'd be a man coming over in order to help on a case. The silence made her want to say something but she couldn't think of anything. He made her nervous.
She brought the body over to him and watched as he studied it for thirty seconds before walking out of the room, leaving her slightly bewildered. What had just happened? Was that it? Only thirty seconds? She hesitantly put the body away when he didn't come back and sighed. She had the oddest feeling her life had changed the moment Sherlock had settled his eyes on hers. She shook her head and went back to work. That was silly, there's no possible reason for him to have such an unsettling effect on her, besides she'd never see him again, right?
