-IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ -
For those of you who have been reading the story so far before you freak out, this is still the same story. I've just revamped it - a lot. I wasn't happy with the way the story was progressing, the lack of details and the framework of the story, I was also upset with my lack of consistency that was continuing to insue throughout. Sooo, I guess you can say I started over. I thank everyone who's been following me and who's has been reviewing. This decision didn't come lightly of course. I really didn't want to have to completely start over but here we are. And for those of you who are just joining the story, welcome to the story.
Blackbirds of My Remains
**The Red Twilight**
The first sensation that I had was that it was cold and dark.
I could feel the panic rising in my system as the blood pounded in my ears.
The metal was cold under my bare skin, and the fabric covering me from head to toe didn't provide much help.
My gasps echoed in the space, reverberating loudly against what I could only assume to be metal walls.
Memories of my life flashes before me, bombarding my mind with more confusion than I was already in.
I blinked.
I had died.
This was the morgue to the hospital I was brought to.
Bolting upright, I grabbed the the sheet that was covering me closely and felt my chest. There were no gabbing holes, no bloody wounds, just small slivers of what felt like scars. Taking a deep, shaky breath I slid onto the floor, carefully placing one foot in front of the other. The space was dimly lit and I could make out various bodies on carts around me. A feeling around my toe caused me to look down. Unhooking the toe tag it read:
Name- Jane Doe
Sex- Female
Age- Mid-teens
Cause of Death- Stabbing
Time of Death- 4:17 AM
Case#- 40239681
Description- Red hair, green eyes, 24 stab wounds
Some part of me smiled at this. I was free, not only from my foster life, but from the everyday mundane life society forced upon me. There was something else too. I could feel it like a wildfire burning through my chest, from this point on, everything would change.
"Alice?" a gruff, but smooth voice called. Snapping me out of my thoughts, I turned and smiled at the Doberman like Cybertronian standing along side me. I had been scanning the sun set over what was left of Chicago, the smoke rising above the city casting eerie glows of reds, purples, and oranges across the sky. My long hair was up in a pony-tail, swaying gently in the wind. The Cybertronian quadruped, was standing next to me, watching as well. His luminescent blue eyes glowing in the approaching darkness, as he waited patiently. His shoulders reached above my small 5 foot 3 inch frame as I leaned my head against him.
The last of the sun's rays of light faded away leaving behind only remnants that it had once shone in the sky, I turned towards my companion agian. He was at least 7 feet tall. What was so unusual about the beast, was that his black armor was never exposed until engaged in battle. His whole form usually consisted of a sleek, silver, body frame. With every movement he made, none of his precious wiring was exposed. Beautiful, really to look at as his body caught the last light of the day. The other strange attribute that set him apart were his eyes. Instead of optics that moved and rotated, they were a solid piece, as though the whole of the socket were his whole optic.
"Ready boy?" I asked with a glimmer of a small smile still left on my lips. Fireblade dipped his head, jumping off the mounds of debris that we had climbed, he transformed into a black 2013 Honda Fireblade CBR 1000RR motorcycle. As he landed on his two tires, after observing him only a moment ago, I realized his form was larger than that of a normal bike of the same make and model. The thought made me me think of the first time I had come across the beast of a bot. Although, I hadn't really come across the Doberman as more of created him.
It had been several weeks since I had awoken from the morgue. I had been wondering the better side of Los Angeles, scouring the streets for food and shelter. The winter months had set in, the days were still warm, but some nights dipped below freezing. Of course along with the cooler weather, these months also brought most of the desolate city its year's accumulation of water. That night hadn't been the first storm to pour its contents onto the city. It had been rain for several days straight, that night my breath was clearly visible through the onslaught of water. Cold, wet, hungry, and alone, I had been trying to find somewhere out of the rain. A noise I had never heard before that point entered my ears, turning around I saw two giant metal feet, looking up -a pair of glowing red eyes. A faint voice in the back of my head telling me that I was in danger and needed to run.
Ignoring the fact that I had a voice in my head, I began to run, not knowing where or to, but I didn't get very far before I flew into the front of a building's glass windows. I could feel the glass slice and dig its way deeper into my skin as I crawled away from what my mind told me was a Decepticon. Getting back on my feet, it wasn't long before I stumbled into a display of motorcycles. The fear was settling in my system. The rain water that dripped off of me mixed with my tears as I watched to figure walk up to me. It destroyed the building further, crushing the ceiling and the walls with ease as it came closer.
A scream ripped through my throat as its hand came towards me. Flinching a bit he retracted his hand, but it was enough. The bikes around me started faintly glowing, a blue light outlining the objects as they started to shake and wobble. The Decepticon noticed this too and stopped its pursuit of me as it watched as well. Backing up, away from both scenes I watched as parts and pieces from the motorcycles in front of me snapped together transforming. It was amazing to watch as it stood up on four legs, opening its glowing blue eyes the beast snarled. Black armor began to appear as it's silver, what could only be called a protoform, slid away.
Without warning, the newly formed bot leapt at the larger one, teeth bare and snarling. Everything was a blur after that, the black armor of the beast bot clashed with the dark colors of the Decepticon's and those of the night. The only color that made its way to my eyes were those of their eyes, blue and red mixing with the surrounding darkness. Stunned and unable to move much, I watched as the Decepticon fell, his red optics offlining, leaving the large Doberman look-alike the victor. Slowly, yet calmly the bot walked over to me. Its baby blue eyes glowing softer than before.
"Alice, are you alright?" the gruff, firm voice asked. His low tonal range calming me as I took a deep breath.
"Y-yeah, I think so..." I started to move around but winced when I moved my hands. Looking down at them I noticed they were still bleed, the rain still pelted down from the sky above. Small, chunky pieces had embedded themselves into the soft skin of my hands, causing them to shine in what little light there was. The 'mech' as that small part of my mind told me, walked over to me and looked at hands as well. A noise that sounded as though he were venting out air broke the silence of the falling rain.
"Hmm, the glass will need to be removed however, right now we need to leave before the authorities arrive." He answered me in a low voice. I merely nodded.
"Who are you?" I asked gaining some of my stability back in my mind as well as standing up.
"I am of your creation, the All-Spark energy within you sensed your desperation and called it forth from within you. What shall you designate me as?" he asked simply.
"Uhh, what?"
"What name shall you give me since you are my creator?" he stated more clearly for me to understand.
"Oh, umm..."I looked around for some clue to help me since I was drawing blanks. A sign caught my eye and a word stuck out among the other words printed on it. "How about Fireblade?" I asked. He seemed to ponder about the name for a moment before nodding his head.
"Fireblade it is then."
Snapping back to reality, I stopped Fireblade when we came to an open, off-ramp and exited the interstate. Even though we were some distance from the actual chaos that had occurred only hours before, debris and other material littered the area. Sliding off of him, he silently transformed and followed close behind me, making no noise in the process. Using the already encroached darkness as our cover, we made our way along the river hoping to find a bridge that was down, finding no such luck when we came upon guards that had stationed themselves at the entrance to a downed bridge.
"Stay here, please." I asked of the mech, he shook his head, laying down as to be less noticeable. I crept closer to the downed bridge and using an overturned SUV as cover I peered around it. Crouching down, I quickly began assessing the situation, trying to figure out the best way across without cause too much of an alarm. Looking beyond the several guards that were stationed at the barricades blocking the entrance to the city, were the Autobots themselves. It was at this moment I was glad to have always been able to disguise our signals. It would be much easier if I could just expose myself now, however there was still too much to do before that time came.
I watched as I saw what was left of the soldier who had fought working on various activities a bit further away from them. Tents, generators, towering lights, and various other things composed of the camp. There were soldiers scattered everywhere, some in groups others alone, but most of them were sleeping anywhere they could. There as a soft echo that rose above them camp, it reverberated off of the once tall skyline of the city.
It was easy to pick out and watch the Autobots as they stood high above most of the wreckage around them. I watched Optimus who was sitting on a pile of debris, silently stare out into the black darkness of the city while Ratchet busied himself with reattaching his arm. Sideswipe and Bumblebee had stayed behind, if only to watch over the temporary encampment and their leader. A few soldiers and doctors who were treating the wounded were the only others that stayed behind as well. The rest I could only assume were out looking for survivors.
Quietly sighing, I looking down the river a bit and spotted our saving grace, a building that had collapsed partially into the river while the rest of it hung dangerously close to the edge. Thanking my luck, I made my way over to 'Blade, telling him my idea. Hopping onto his back, he carefully, but quickly picked his way through the twisted metal and broken glass to the building laying in the water. Since most of the city was plunged in darkness, it was easy enough to walk over to the edge of the concrete embankment that held the river at bay.
I held onto Fireblade as I felt him prepare himself to jump on the the metal sticking up out of the water. Leaping, I felt the wind rush through my hair rather quickly before all was still again, the only sound that was made was the creaking of the metal as we landed.
Well there we go, I am much happier with the way things are progressing now and am pleased with the length that I am achieving as well. Please bare with me as I try to update the rest of the chapters I deleted and will repost. Also, please let me know what you think of the story now as opposed to before for those of you who have been following. I thank all of you again, for those of you who have been following and have been reviewing. One more thing, I don't particularly care for the author's notes at the beginning or end of chapters I feel it takes away from the moment of the story so I'll try not have any. But I still appreciate reviews!
