Molly dug her feet into the grass to swing the hammock she was sitting on, back and forth, slowly. Her curls were spread out behind her, and in her hand was a glass of lemonade.
Behind her, she could hear her family, laughing and chatting as they wandered in and out of the Burrow. She sipped her lemonade happily, sighing into the balmy night with a calm contentedness. She watched as the sun's rays slowly started to burn out, as it sunk into the clouds, nestling into the hearth of the earth. The sky molded into different colours as it set, no longer lighting up blue, but turning shards of orange and pink.
Bringing her knees to her chest, Molly rested her glass down between the blades of grass. Fairylights appeared as they always did at sunset, stringing themselves along the house and backyard. A bee buzzed near her ear, and she swatted it away.
Lightly behind her, she heard footsteps in the grass. She guessed who it was before they appeared, and as usual, she was right.
"What's a pretty girl like you all alone?" Lysander Scamander said in her ear, hands in his pockets. He whistled as he made his way in front of her.
She smirked. "What's it to you, Scamander?"
He shrugged. "Ah, nothing really. I was just born curious, is all. Scooch over, love." He bumped her with his arm, and took a seat close to her. Her stomach flopped, as it always did when he was around.
They sat in silence for a few moments, but Lysander was born without the quiet gene.
"What're you thinking about?"
Molly shrugged. "Nothing. Everything."
He nodded. "Those are two completely different things, Mol."
"Sometimes, the things that are the most different attract each other."
He grinned. "Like you and me, right?"
She turned to him, on the verge of laughing. "Exactly like you and me."
Lysander leaned in and kissed her then, softly. She smiled against him, feeling warmth slipping from her head to her toes, the most fabulous feeling in the world, in her opinion.
She pulled back first, and gently threaded her fingers through his. "You promised, right?"
"What, forever? I told you, Mol. Forever is as long as we want it to be. I'm promising always."
Molly giggled. "Whatever."
Leaning her head on his shoulder, she breathed in the summer air, and the promises of always.
