Authors' Note – The phrase that spawned this idea has been rolling around in my head for months and it wasn't until I had a conversation with a friend that I was finally able to write something down and this was the result, it is nothing like anything else I have ever written and I can't work out whether I like it or not, therefore I thought I would post it and see what you guys thought. A Way

It started all those years ago across a briefing room table and, while it had its ups and downs, it never wavered but grew and strengthened, despite all the odds and attempts at sacrifice. It was a force of its own, bending its will to no-one, no matter how they tried.

They didn't realise its power at first but once it took hold there was nothing to be done. They ignored it at first, tried to deny it existed but eventually it was too strong to deny and they began to accept – not share or do anything but accept. But it was not to be denied; fate had a different path for them.

They were forced to open their hearts to others; to the person they wished to hide it from. It was now there, ready to be grasped and cherished but it was not to be. It was locked away. It was not the right time, but it would be, one day. But it had no idea of the strength of mind of those involved. While it was now out there, accepted and known, it was still kept in a cage, not to be released. It was hinted at and at times it appeared the lock would be broken but it never quite broke through that final bar, for something worse was to befall it, a challenger.

This challenger was accepted and welcomed, encouraged to continue and that cage got smaller and smaller until fate almost accepted defeat. But the cage was never small enough to stop it. It seeped out of cracks and wrapped its way around their hearts and minds and soon the challenger was removed. A battle had been won but the war still raged. The war of their minds against their hearts; their dedication against their hopes; their duty and honour against their desires.

The stale mate needed to be broken and there was only one thing left in the arsenal – separation. If that didn't work then nothing would and fate would accept defeat.

Separation happened and the cage began to grow again through remembrances of other times. It grew and grew and was not to be stopped until the lock was finally broken and it was released. When the lock finally gave it was beyond even fates experience. The torrent of emotions, feelings, desire and passion that they fed into one another was beyond anything ever seen.

Theirs was a love an eon in the making. It had been destined since time began, waiting for the perfect pair. It searched galaxies and universes and it waited, for this was not a gift to be lightly given. Finally it found its pair and watched as they accepted the gift. The struggles and trials that made it through only strengthened its resolve and finally, at the time of almost certain despair, it was released.

They were soul mates, kindred spirits, a twin flame, a divine complement. They were meant for one another and no-one else. Theirs was a love to span an eternity, love is not to be denied, for what is meant to be will always find a way.
