Whispers and Nothing

It was nice, to be in such absolute darkness. It was nice, knowing he was alone. When it was absolutely dark, there were no traitorous lights casting shadows over truth and lies. When he was alone, there was no one to hurt him.

He laid there in the infinite blackness, eyes barely open, only just barely aware. He felt the feeling begin to slip from his fingers, felt a heaviness settle slowly upon him. His eyes were sliding shut now, and he was sinking.

A scream tore through the peaceful still, and his eyes jerked open. Painful clarity rushed through him, and he tried to jerk upright, only to be hindered by the dark density all around him. It was like a solid suit, molded around him and holding him still. Still, the screaming didn't stop.

Dim light filtered through to him, and he reached to it. After what could have been hours, he burst through the surface of an ink black pool and pulled himself onto land. The strange substance evaporated quickly, leaving the earth parched and dry. He looked around him. Everywhere--there was no moisture. It was a desert. Endless sand...

A name. A boy--a boy? A hand. His hand. The boy...

The sunlight hurt his eyes. He wished for a peaceful cool like the one he had before.

Why was the boy crying? The name...

A hand--not his. Another boy, smiling. A whisper.

His eyes were open and the first person he saw was Naruto.

Owari.

A/N: I love Gaara and Naruto shipping...I'm still a huge supporter of SasuNaru, but since Sasuke's being a douche right now...
