AN: Just a little one-shot I wrote at three in the morning. Do not own Severus Snape or the quote from Deathly hallows... but a girl can dream :)

They were arguing again.

Severus closed his door to try to block out the yells, but as always, that did nothing. Anger pierced through him at their selfishness. They cared more about hating each other than loving their only son.

The raven-haired boy flinched as he heard his father's fist hit the wall; his mother's shrieks growing even louder. Banging his fists on the door Severus screamed.

"Just shut UP!!"

But the desperate cry for silence could not be heard over the two adults on the other side of the door. No matter how loud he yelled, no matter what he threw against the walls, no matter what he did they never heard him. He slammed his fist against his door once more before his anger swiftly diminished into despair.

Severus collapsed to the floor and brought his knees up to his chest. He leaned his head back against the wall opposite his door, and watched, from the large gap under his door, the shadows of his parents. Hopelessness filled Severus. He couldn't shut his parents up. He had no relatives or friends to run to. He was alone and forgotten. As always. Severus stopped holding back the sobs that threatened to break to the surface, and allowed his tears to fall.

"It won't be that long and I'll be gone."
