Mitchie POV

"Class I am assigning you you're partner for this year. You will do all projects together and you will not be able to switch partners, so if you don't like them get to know the real them and give them a chance. For your first project you must create a diagram of one of the battles fought in the Civil War and write a paper on it. The project will be do in two weeks and will be worth twenty-five percent of your grade, so don't just blow it off. Here are your partners…"

Great another project and the partner I get will be my partner for the rest of the year. I hope I don't get stuck doing the whole project like I did last time. Senior year has just been a stressful so far and I don't need another lazy partner like I usually get.

"Mitchie and Shane you two will be partners."

Great…Shane let's just hope he actually helps me with the project. Shane Gray is on the football team and is also starting quarterback and I play the clarinet in the marching band. It's not like we don't get along, we are just so different. He's someone I've known since kindergarten, but we've never really talked. He's popular and I'm not. It's not like he makes fun of me, well at least not in front of my face. I'd rather be made fun of behind my back then being made fun of right in front of my face.

"Hey," Shane says as he takes the seat next to me.

"Hey."

"So…what battle do you want to do the project on?""I honestly don't care."

"Well we will have to decide eventually."

"We can talk about it after school."

"Can't football practice. How about 6:30?"

"Can't band practice."

"How about during lunch tomorrow?"

"That's fine."

Rrriiinngg. Finally the bell.

"See you then." Shane says

"Yep."

Well that was awkward. At least he didn't make fun of me or complain about being my partner and he seemed like he was going to help with the project, but I'm just glad it's finally time for lunch which I'm going to spend with my best friend Caitlyn since I won't be able to eat with her tomorrow because I have to talk to Shane. I see Caitlyn in the lunch line and I run to catch up with her.

"Hey!" I say as I approach her.

"Hey so how was American history?"

"Boring…and we got our partners today."

"Shane."

"Shane Gray?" Caitlyn asks as we sit down at the lunch table.

"Yes."

"Well that sucks, he's probably going to make you do all of the work."

"I don't know, he seems like he was going to help with it."

"Trust me he's not. He's going to make you do all the work so he can get an and keep his position as starting quarterback. That's just the kind of guy he is."

"Well we will have to see. I am having lunch with him tomorrow to talk about our project."

"You're abandoning me? What kind of a best friend are you?"

"Fine then I'll let him sit with us."

"No! I don't want to sit with him."

"Then I am going to have to leave you for one day."

"Fine." Then we both started laughing. We don't really know why it's just what we do.

They rest of the day went by slowly. I got a lot of homework in pre calculus, but at least I passed the test I had in it. I ended the day with P.E., which I hate, but at least I have it at the end of the day so I'm not sweaty all day at school. As I walked to my car I bumped into Shane…literally bumped into him.

"Sorry Shane!" I say a little embarrassed.

"It's fine…oh hey, don't forget about lunch tomorrow."

"I won't." I say back.

Then I walk to my old used car and drive home to finish all of my homework before band practice tonight.
