Kaite's light brown hair whipped over her face as she lay down beside her best friend. She tucked the stray hairs behind her ears and resumed her conversation with Lindsey.
"So you think that this Heather Brewer chick really is a vampire?" Kaite asked.
Lindsey looked over at her, "Well yeah, I mean she's got your whole world down to a t. The Elysian Code and everything." They both had just read 'The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod' series by Heather Brewer, and were considering whether or not she really was a vampire. Everything she described about Kaite's kind matched up exactly. The speed, strength, ability to sense other vampires and to manipulate peoples thoughts, the tattoo-like symbols on their wrists, and most of all, the hunger.
"But I have never heard of this Vladimir guy. He sounds hot though," Kaite said with a smirk on her face. Lindsey laughed because she knew her friend would date him if she had the chance. That was just like her though, always thinking about guys. That's why her nickname was B.C., short for Boy Crazy, and she sure lived up to it.
"What happened to Joel?" Lindsey questioned, while studying the shapes that the clouds made. So far she had seen a skull, a fork, and to her liking, a Ying-Yang symbol.
"Oh, he is still my true love," Kaite joked, while daydreaming of him again. Of his beautiful blue-green eyes and his brown-red hair that glistened in the sunlight. He was tall too, just what Kaite liked. With a gorgeous smile that melted her heart every time she saw it. Delicious. She had first seen him at a camp that she loved going to, though she had never really talked to him, she really liked him.
Lindsey didn't want to know what else Kaite was thinking of, because she was too busy thinking of her boyfriend, Darien. He was Asian, and exactly what she had wanted. Besides, Kaite's daydreams about boys usually consisted of ripping off the clothes and tongue kissing. Not exactly her cup of tea.
"Anyways, do you think that this Vladimir guy is real? Could he really dominate over humans and vampires?" Kaite asked.
"I don't know, but I do know that it is getting late. And if we don't hurry back to my house we are going to miss the premiere of 'When Zombie Space Aliens Attack!'" Lindsey said as she stood up. She brushed of the dirt from her jeans and added, "Plus, my mom would kill us if we got home after dark."
"Ain't that the truth," Kaite said as she stood up in the middle of their secret field. It was nice, having a place that she and Lindsey only knew about. A place that they could always sneak off to, where their worries and stresses could lift away. The field was beautiful too, with trees forming a sort of fortress around them. And the one tree in the middle that they could rest under.
Sometimes they would camp out there. Kaite would tell her mom that she was going over to Lindsey's and Lindsey would tell her mom that she was going over to Kaite's. And together they would sneak off to have their fun roasting marshmallows and sharing ghost stories.
Kaite looked at Lindsey, who was stretching her arms in the air.
"Want a lift?" she asked with a smile playing on her lips.
"Why yes, yes I do kind lady," Lindsey laughed. And with that, she climbed onto Kaite's back, and the vampire flitted back to Lindsey's house.
