Prompts: one and only ; midst, envelope, cornucopia, magical

"you know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams." -Dr Seuss

She's always been scared. She's scared every minute of the day. And being scared and exhausted every night, she goes to sleep easily. But even then her consciousness haunts her.

She loses herself in her nightmares, in the midst of the deaths and the horror. She feels like reality doesn't hold anything better for her either. Every moment, her mind replays everything from the arena.

The arena. That's where it all started; the arena, with its golden cornucopia in the middle and all the obstacles to kill surrounding it: watching others die, the disastrous flood, surviving in the water, she remembers it all. In her world, that is the only thing she remembers. And she doubts whether she'll ever forget it.

But maybe, she thinks, she's wrong, after all. Maybe reality holds something or someone, more special than anyone else in this world. And that person for her was him.

She can't understand how she feels for him at first. He has those sea-green eyes that remind her of the ocean, and a dazzling smile, one of the only things that she actually takes in. Enveloped in his arms, she forgets the whole world, and sometimes even her world. Those are magical moments, she knows. Only gradually does she come to understand what his touch does to her skin, or what the dancing in her stomach at the sight of him means. And she can't seem to get rid of those feelings.

One night, she goes to bed holding his hand in hers. It felt good, and the warmth of his body was comforting next to her. She looks at his twinkling green eyes and realizes that he is her one and only.
