The Kidnap by Trina Toh

The phone rang continuously. Bruce Wayne crossed the hall to the phone and picked it up. He rumbled into the receiver, "Wayne Manor."

The voice on the other line growled, "Wayne, I have your butler Alfred Pennyworth with me. If you want to see him alive, bring six million to Dixon Docks at midnight. Not one cent is to be left out." The phone then went dead.

Bruce slammed the phone down in anger, and dashed to the Batcave. His heart was pounding as he reached his surrogate son Dick Grayson. "Alfred has been kidnapped. Dixon Docks. Midnight. I want you to take the money, leave it there, and change into Nightwing."

"Right on it, Bruce. Expect me there."

As the time drew near, a lone figure in a duster strolled casually to Dixon Docks. He entered the only building there and placed a briefcase on a bare table, then left.

A group of seven men saw the man leave, and approached the briefcase. One snapped the lock. "We've got the bucks," he reported.

"Good," another answered. "Then waste the old guy."

One crook, acting on the order of the previous one, crossed the dimly lit room to Alfred, placing a revolver to the old man's head. "Good bye, Mr. Pennyworth."

But before he could pull the trigger, someone crashed through the skylights and landed in a crouch. The person stood up to his fullest height, cloak billowing around him.

"It's the Bat!" someone screamed.

Another shadow threw itself over them and a voice growled, "And me, Nightwing."

Before anyone could react, the younger vigilante flipped over to Alfred and started to release him. Batman took them down effortlessly, leaving them all unconscious. He then contacted Commissioner James Gordon and informed him to apprehend the crooks.

Once that was done, he turned to his family. "Let's go home."

In the Batcave, Alfred approached the two young men who had saved him. Gratitude and love were evident in his eyes as he said, "Thank you, sons."
