When evil has grown beyond measure

And all is lost that was treasure

Heroes rise to defend good

An ode to all those who stood

'Gainst the greatest evil

The world has known...

To all the unnamed souls,

Who were the first to drown

In the first tide of sacrifice.

Victory was to take awhile.

Yet they never deterred

To erase all that was vile.

To James Potter,

A loyal and courageous Griffindor.

To Lily Potter,

With whom ended the first wizarding war.

Their sheer courage and love

Held power he knew not.

To Alice and Frank Longbottom,

Unlucky victims in his plot.

To Perenelle and Nicolas Flamel,

Brewer of the philosopher's stone.

In willingly accepting death

Their goodness had shown.

To Cedric Diggory,

Kind and a loyal heart

His demise would mark

The start of the final part.

To Sirius Black,

For whom happiness was but a mirage.

Who set out to defy his very blood

And touched hearts at large

To Albus Dumbledore,

The man who'd known all.

He was just and kind and wise

And always stood tall.

What sorrow it brought!

When the phoenix flew at last.

To Hedwig,

The constant support was another to pass.

To Alastor Moody,

And his constant vigilance

The strongest fighter known

Upon whom all looked with reverence.

To Rufus Scrimgeour,

Who outshone himself.

To Dobby,

the free elf.

The selfless little creature

With the rebellious streak

With his death,

Grieve was at it's peak.

To Fred Weasley,

A part of the whole

With humor and wit,

He played his role.

To Remus Lupin and Tonks,

Who suffered endlessly

yet shined through it all.

And played their part splendidly.

To Colin Creevy,

To Lavender Brown,

And all the students

Who were lain down.

To Severus Snape,

Whose love flourished always

Lived in a dark light

And never the one for praise.

A willing sacrifice they made

Which made them all the more great.

Yet they were lucky enough

to live without the dark pall

That forever covered the souls

Who lived through it all.
