Summary: Morino Ibiki on appearances and life in ninja villages. Especially on late afternoons, key word, late.

----------------------------

Monday, Late Afternoon

Morino Ibiki watches people. He's good at it. Observing and reading people is his job after all, and he loves his job. But anyone who knows it's Torture and Interrogation can tell you he's a scary son-of-a-bitch.

What some people don't know is that he has a sense of humour.

Every so often, Hatake Kakashi calls him a sadist to his face with an infuriating smile. Ibiki merely raises an eyebrow and looks back.

Today, he thanks the waitress and sips his cup, waiting for Anko to show up. For once, he hopes she'll be late. A drama is unfolding at the next teahouse, murderous intent already obvious at his arrival and growing steadily since.

What some people have forgotten is this.

Copy-ninja Hatake Kakashi wasn't always Sharingan Kakashi, master of a thousands techniques. Ten years ago, fucking Hatake Kakashi didn't use to have so many nicknames. Ten years ago, the ANBU Hound had succeeded so well in convincing his peers he was nothing more than a breathing, moving personification of a naked blade, even old war dogs pissed themselves approaching him. Ten years ago, Ibiki would have bet a fortune Kakashi'd never be able to look harmless. Or more preposterous yet, flaky.

Now, his eyes follow the man's walk down the street with an orange porn book in hand and he smoothes down a twitch of muscles at the corner of his mouth as a Chuunin gapes and walks into a wall. A little bit further, a scandalised mother covers her son's eyes with an outraged cry.

"Kakashi-sensei, you're late!" A louder scream covers the woman's though. This time, Ibiki lets his lips quirk in a small smile and kicks back to enjoy the show. Kakashi is in for an earful if he can't distract his assailants.

Morino Ibiki watches people, is a sadist and has a not-so-secret sense of humour to people that can look underneath the underneath. In a ninja village, there are always people willing to provide a good show and you need all of these qualities to appreciate them properly.

End.
