Harry sat back as he watched his children run around in their yard. Their yard. His children. These phrases were new to him. His children were eight, six, and three. They were chasing each other around in his yard. Little Lily chased her older brothers, tripped over her feet and fell crying.
Harry moved to get up, but Ginny stopped him.
"Let them handle it," Ginny said sweetly.
As they watched, James came instantly over to Lily, picked her up, and kissed her forehead. She stopped crying and reached up to his face, playing with it as Albus came over to see what was taking them so long.
"See?" Ginny smiled.
"They do this all the time? Be that sweet with her?" Harry was amazed. He was home from a week long special mission the Aurors had to take.
"You really should be at home more, Harry. You're missing out on them growing up," Ginny replied. She gently reached for his arm, patted it, and stood up.
"Children, time to come in," she stated. All three came running to their mother.
"Just a moment James," Harry said as he watched his oldest son glance at his mum.
"You can come in a moment," Ginny said sweetly, picking up Lily.
After they were gone, Harry gave his son a warm hug.
"Thank you for being kind to your sister," Harry said when they broke apart.
"Dad—" James started to say.
"No, really. She's three, she looks up to you and Albus. She doesn't have any sisters, so she needs her big brothers. Especially with me gone a lot."
"Are you going to come home and stay?" James asked as he stared into his father's eyes.
"I'll work on that. I'd like to be closer to home. I hate being away from you three and your mother," Harry said.
Harry watched his son go into their home. His home. His wife. His children. Harry froze for a moment thinking how lucky he was. Ginny was right. He needed to stay closer to home. The children were growing up so fast. And he missed Ginny. Harry had never imagined he would have lucky days after the war.
Those days in his past, he does not regret, for they made him who he was today. A father and a husband. He owed it to his family to be there for them. Harry smiled as he stretched his arms before going into his house.
Lucky days were coming for him. And for that, Harry was grateful.
