Six Likes
Disclaimer: I do not own Power of Five
Pedro glared at the computer screen. His brows were furrowed in a frown and his lips formed a straight line. He clenched his fists and punched the table.
"Argh!" he cried in frustration. Matt heard him from the next room and came there to see if all was okay. He sighed when he saw the cause of Pedro's displeasure.
Pedro had made a Facebook page about himself and there were only six likes on it. Pedro really found it hard to believe because the others had many more likes. Matt's page had a thousand likes, Scarlett had nine hundred and fifty two, Jamie and Scott had eight hundred and twelve each. But Pedro, he had only six.
"WHY!?" Pedro yelled at the screen. Obviously, the number of likes did not increase.
The Gatekeepers were popular now, having defeated the Old Ones despite being mere children and for helping to make some facilities available to the people. Those who were still getting access to the internet were liking the Five from all over the world. The Facebook page about all of the Gatekeepers had more than one thousand and five hundred likes. A few years ago it would not have been much but after the war of Oblivion, it was a lot.
Pedro could not understand why people did not like his page. He was also a Gatekeeper! He had an important part to play too. Yet, nobody acknowledged him. Ever. His breathing was constrained and heavy and he kept clenching and unclenching his fists.
"Pedro…?" Matt asked as he walked up to his friend. Pedro muttered something in Spanish which Matt did not understand but his tone certainly gave away his anger.
"You okay?"
"Why do people like you more?!" Pedro cried out in frustration, "Haven't I done anything?!"
Matt considered the question rather seriously. Pedro had done a lot but, Matt knew he should not think like that, but Pedro had failed a lot as well. He could not heal Scott, he had been unable to save Matt and Scott's other, present selves. For Jamie's sake, Flint had agreed to be called Scott, but Pedro was late to save the real Scott.
But Pedro had saved Matt's life so it was not like Pedro was a complete failure.
Before Matt could say anything Pedro proceeded.
"I have zero likes!"
Matt frowned. "No Pedro, you have… six likes."
He stifled his laughter at that. Well, six likes were pretty less.
"Yeah and four of them are from you all, one from Holly and one from Richard. That's six likes!" Pedro cried furiously.
Matt was speechless. What to say now?
"Calm down Pedro," he said soothingly, "You have six likes right? Some people don't have even two! You should be happy and satisfied."
And that was when he knew he was in trouble.
Pedro's eyes had a strange sort of light in them. Matt felt that they were balls of flame. He gulped and stepped back.
"Happy and satisfied?" Pedro asked quietly.
"Look Pedro, I don't mean that! You surely deserve more! Keep trying and you'll get more!"
Pedro narrowed his eyes. He turned to his computer and logged in on Facebook.
"Hey!" Matt protested.
Pedro un-liked all of the Five's Facebook pages.
"That's not fair!" Matt cried.
Pedro logged out and stood up to leave. He came face to face with Matt and looked him in the eye.
"Why did you do that?" Matt demanded. Pedro smirked.
"Why are you sad about losing one like, Matteo?" he asked, "You still have nine hundred and ninety nine likes. You should be happy… and satisfied."
With that Pedro walked out leaving Matt alone. The leader of the Five let his face fall into his hands.
He wanted a thousand likes!
