Dark Side of the Glass
-------------------------

Heero slowly walked down the deserted street, hands shoved deeply into the pockets of his faded jeans. He wasn't sure where he was going; he just needed to go. He glanced up at the setting sun, almost seeing her smile.

Walking through shadows
Feel like I'm drifting away
With a rainbow touching your heart
Too cold to live this way

He sighed and turned his attention back to the cracked street. There was no way it would ever work for them. They came from two very different worlds. He was a shadow of the night; she was a dancer of the day.

On the dark side of the glass
Alone on the edge
On the dark side of the glass
I'm an outsider
I'm an outsider
Looking in

Even though she could fool herself, he could never do that. He would never be accepted by her world and he'd never feel comfortable there. He belonged here in the shadows and could only look with longing into her light.

You can't run from what you are
You can't hide all the pain
When you look through empty eyes
Night falls and the darkness remains

He couldn't hide the bloodstains on his hands and the nightmares behind a shield of silk and satin. He had seen to much, had been forced to endure so much, that he could never set free his heart. He could never exist in the world were she had to live. He was a soldier, a killer; she was a princess, an angel.

On the dark side of the glass
Alone on the edge
On the dark side of the glass
I'm an outsider
I'm an outsider
Looking in

That's why he had to leave her. He knew he would never be able to stay in her world and looking through the glass barrier would have eventually destroyed him. As it was, he wasn't sure if he could go on like this. He shook his head. It didn't matter. As long as she was safe, it didn't matter that he was alone.

On the dark side of the glass
Alone on the edge
On the dark side of the glass
I'm the outsider
I'm the outsider
Looking in

He slowly walked toward the dilapidated building where he was now staying. It was a far cry from what she had offered him, but it was part of his world. His world was filled with pain and anguish. He had no intention of bringing the darkness from his world through the glass wall to her world, she didn't deserve it.

I'm the outsider
I'm the outsider
I'm the outsider...

He looked back up the road one last time, almost wishing it didn't have to be this way. But he would always be an outsider in her world, and she didn't deserve to be dragged into his. He closed his eyes, a single tear escaping his iron control as he stepped inside his apartment and shut the door, cutting off the light.
