a/n: I write a lot of AU, so I thought I'd try some more Avatarverse. I imagine this takes place in the episode "Bitter Work" in that peaceful pond place Katara and Aang practiced waterbending. It's super short, but I can't be bothered to try to write more partly because I'm lazy, partly because I don't have a lot of time, and partly because I'd have a hard time writing if I'm too busy giggling at what I write. Hehe, enjoy!

Float Along
In the lagoon, he's happy because with Katara, how can he not be?
But suddenly her face contorts into a wicked smile and Aang's happiness fades. Before he can muster up any defenses, a wave towers high above his head (he thinks for a second, Is there even that much water in this lagoon?), but he acts quickly and slices straight through the wave.
Ha, perfect, he smirks.
And then he crashes headfirst into Katara and they're both submerged under water. For a second, his arms wrap around her torso and he can't believe he didn't think that through, but then he realizes his arms are wrapped around her. Though his eyesight is distorted, her eyes are as blue as ever; he grins at her. Bubbles of laughter escape her mouth (he can't hear it clearly, but it's still the most enchanting sound he's ever heard) and he pulls them back up.
When they resurface, the water settles down from the massive wave breaking, but the lighthearted spirit isn't going anywhere. They're floating on their backs and Aang knows he wants to be nowhere else than beside this wonderful human being.
"Sorry," he says, turning his head slightly, "but I got away, didn't I?"
Katara laughs, pushes him softly and, before she can pull away, he grabs her hand to pull her closer. Their sides bump and the laughter vanishes.
Grey eyes meet blue (he swears his heart skips a beat) and this is a moment if they ever had one—and he goes for it.
His lips press against her cheek (he's not sure if either of them are prepared for anything more) for the shortest moment. Shock and (he likes to think) ecstasy etches across her face. Then he smiles, doesn't wait for any more of a reaction, and dunks himself into the lagoon.
He doesn't expect her to race after him.
A/n: I might add another chapter to this, it would be my original idea, AU, teen, but basically the same story. I don't know when I'll add it, since it took me so long to write this alternative after I got the idea last summer, but alert if you're interested. I'm more likely to write it if I know people are looking forward to it.
