Tomoya gasped sharply. There he was, back at the start again. Nagisa was standing at the top of the hill, silent and still as the cherry blossoms fluttered around her and spun towards the floor. He watched intently as one got caught in her hair and stayed there, attached almost by a thread. Everything that had happened... Nagisa's death... Ushio's death... he shouldn't say a word. We should never have met. The words echoed in his head as Nagisa turned on her heels and began to slowly walk down the hill, her head down.

She didn't look at him. In fact, Tomoya would say that she didn't even notice him, if he hadn't known better. Of course, it was obvious that Nagisa knew everything that he did - everything that would happen in the future, after they met. Somehow, he knew that he was being given a second chance. And it was something he had to take.

"Nagisa!" He yelled at this realization, spinning on his heels and dropping his schoolbag, hesitating for only a second before launching himself down the path towards her.

She turned slowly, an expression only of shock on her face as Tomoya enveloped her in his arms. "Nagisa... please don't leave..."

Nagisa struggled in his grip, and suddenly Tomoya knew that something was wrong. "U-um... I'm sorry, but..."

He pulled back. "Nagisa? What's... what's wrong?"

"I don't know you," Nagisa said, her voice trembling slightly as she maneuvered herself out of Tomoya's grip. "I don't know how you know my name, but... I have to leave now. I'm sorry..."

"Nagisa? You don't..." Tomoya's eyes welled with tears as it hit him. He had been given a second chance, but not with Nagisa. Everything was pointless without Nagisa... everything he had worked for, everything he wanted to be, everything he existed for. And this way, Ushio would never exist. The tears began to streak down his face as he shakily stepped backwards and Nagisa stared at him in shock.

"I'm really sorry... did I surprise you?" Nagisa asked haltingly. "I'm sorry, but I really don't know you. I have to leave now." She turned and began to hurry down the path, leaving Tomoya's sight so quickly that he barely had time to take one last look at her face.

"Nagisa..." Tomoya fell to his knees, the tears streaming down his face as he silently wept. "Why... anything but this..."

Anything but this.
