This came to be whilst trying to continue Second Squirehood. The spelling should be correct (I'm on my brother's pc, which doesn't have a spell check facility). I know it will be horribly out of character, but I'm really not interested. It's just a oneshot.
Invincible
A magical boom came from the Grand Doors, and from the smoke emerged small band of mercenaries, the head's hand still raised up and glowing from the spell. He grinned slyly, his sword glittering in the mage-light. He pointed it at the Lady Knight. "We only want her. Your Prime Minister, your Majesties, all the rest of your Noblemen and Ladies, may stay. Unharmed." He pressed the last word. Three of the four other mercenaries slipped down the Grand Stairs, their armour (light for travelling) moving seamlessly and without a sound. They placed hands on her arms and shoulders, which she did not snatch away, although she could smell them strongly; a putrid mix of travelling too long and filth. She nodded, and as she began to stride forward, Dom, Nealan, Numair, Yuki, Raoul, George, Merric, Owen and Seaver stepped forward, seeking to follow her. Alanna and Daine could be seen chopping off their skirts, ready for a fight. The men pulled up their dress swords, George releasing two of a number of hidden knives.A mercenary stopped them and snarled, "Where are you going? We don't want you! Just the girl."
Numair calmly replied, "Yes, but we should be allowed to accompany her, to even the numbers." Ther mercenary looked uncertain, glancing at his master. The head glared at the men and women, knowing they were right. "I will pick four for her."
The magic that had been accumulating at Neal's, Alanna's and Numair's fingers died away quickly; a volatile candle being snuffed out.
He pointed to Numair, George, Owen, and Seaver. Kel spoke out, "No. Not Owen. A golden noble for Owen to stay." She looked around, seeing the crestfallen look of the women. "Switch him for Yukimi; she's trained from the Yamani Isles, and equal in ability." The mercenary nodded, knowing of the Yamani's ability to train. and caught the coin in one hand. Kel gripped Owen's drooped shoulder, and whispered fiercely, "I'm sorry, but if I don't come away alive, I need to know you can be safe with New Hope. I entrust them to you." She kissed his cheek, and looked forward again.
The other halves of those chosen kissed them, gripped their hands; sweet nothings were given huge meaning. Neal kissed Yuki fiercely, and produced her glaive from thin air, touching it with fingers alive with emerald fire. She thanked him, took his hand, and smiled, before moving away.
Kel and the other mercenaries dissapeared up the Grand Stairs, the last mercenary shutting the door behind them. Yuki caught up with her, and Kel noted that her slippers were now tied securely to her feet with a spare ribbon from her hair; the patterns could be seen now as mail links. Yuki gazed up at her as if she were drowning.
"This is a very weird situation, like from a fairy tale. And yet you look invincible."
A mercenary galred at her and grunted, "No talking! Or I'll damage your pretty face quite nicely."
Kel smiled at her friend, took her hand and squeezed it reassuringly. There was a glint in her eye, as if a lightning bolt were trapped in it.
"I am, Yuki. I am."
