AN: Okay, this is my first venture into the White Collar fandom. It will probably also be my ONLY venture, as I'm absolutely horrible when it comes to updating my stories. Which is why this is a one-shot. The idea wasn't even mine. I filled a prompt on the White Collar kink meme over at LiveJournal. The prompt was: 'How does this conversation end?' The conversation in question is the first five lines of dialogue.
Disclaimer: I do not own White Collar. The idea for this story was given by an anonymous individual at the White Collar kink meme on LiveJournal, not mine.
Pairings: off-screen Neal/OMC, and Peter/Neal (if you squint real hard). It's mostly just flirtation.
Summary: Cruz gets pissed at Peter for sending in Neal for an undercover job instead of her. Peter feels he made the right choice. Neal is just amused.
I hope you enjoy this little snippet. God, the intro is almost longer than the fic…
* * *
"Guy steals 3.2 million in diamonds and we get him because he can't resist a pretty face."
"Well, it happens to the best of us... What?"
"You know what."
"No, I don't."
"Yes, you do."
Cruz stared Neal down, her expression stormy. She hadn't been a happy camper since Peter chose Neal for an undercover mission. The man they'd been tracking for weeks had been spotted in an upscale club in Atlanta, Georgia. Unfortunately, he had paid a great deal of money for a private parlor and the staff's silence. No one was allowed in the parlor… unless they caught his interest. Peter had tried to catch him before he entered the parlor, but that had been a bust. He'd disguised himself well enough to slip past the FBI. That had left Peter with just one option: send an undercover agent to the club and see if their thief would take the bait. Cruz had been the obvious choice. Peter sent Neal.
"How did he even know Travis was gay?" Cruz asked pointedly, not willing to drop the subject.
"Travis isn't gay," Neal answered with a self-satisfied smirk. He loved riling Cruz up.
"You did not just con a straight man into finding you attractive!"
"I'm straight and I think he's attractive," Jones threw in from the sidelines, raising his hand.
"Why, thank you-"
"That's not what I meant! How did you get him to respond to you if he isn't gay?"
"Simple, really-" Neal began, his eyes lighting up mischievously.
"Travis is bisexual," Peter said as he breezed into the conference room. He handed Neal a cup of coffee as an apology for stopping his partner's elaborate (and completely false) tale. "You would have known that if you'd read his file."
"That still doesn't explain why you sent Caffrey instead of me!"
"No offense, Cruz… But he's prettier than you."
