Watching, protecting, loving,
All those years in the dark.
Hiding your fear and emotion,
Never showing you had a heart.
The years spent in agony
As you pined over her.
The bitterness and heartbreak
For which you found no cure.
You protected Harry for years,
Giving Dumbledore your word.
"After all this time?" he asked.
"Always," you murmured.
You taught me to always be courageous,
Why some are bitter and some tell lies,
Never judge a book by its cover,
And true love never dies.
You've helped me through the past ten years,
And for that, Severus, I thank you.
You're one of my best friends,
And the bravest man I ever knew.
