Hello everyone. Before I begin, I just wanted to say that came up with the idea of Heather having a younger sister awhile ago, but never had the time to write it out. At least, not until now.
Disclaimer: I do not own How to Train Your Dragon or any of the franchise (although, like everyone else, I wish I did). I only came up with the idea and the several OC's found in this story. Also, if you want to use any of my OC's, please ask (not that anyone will).
Now let's begin.
"Hyah," a voice grunted as she threw her freshly sharpened axe at the tree's trunk. The girl was practicing her aim out in the forest alone with only the company of the trees. She walked to the tree and pulled her axe out of its trunk. She then tightened her grip on the handle and launched it towards another tree. She had drew narrow targets on the nearby trees with some charcoal that she had found in her pocket. She observed that her axe had landed near to her hand-drawn target and smiled.
"I'm getting better and better everyday." she busy buried in her thoughts, she didn't hear the heavy footsteps until they were near. She quickly pressed her petite figure against the bark of the nearest tree and held her breathe. After awhile of staying still, the footsteps faded away. She let out sigh. "That was close. You have to be more careful. If you get caught, you'll be a huge amount of trouble." she reminded herself.
She was meant to be at the docks, learning how to be a fisherman like her parents, but instead was training out in the forest on her own. She had always wanted to go into battle or kill a fire-breathing beast. However, her tribe rarely went to war so there weren't many warriors and very few dragon attacks occurred there.
She walked over to the tree and pulled her weapon out of the trunk. She stepped away from the tree, a little further than before, and flung the axe once again. The metal blade cut through the air and into the bark. It hit the center of the target again. She repeated it a few more times and every time, it made it to the center.
She smiling at her improvements and walked over to the sapling with her axe wedged in. She tugged on her axe with one hand, but it didn't budge. Her smile disappeared and was replaced with a frown. She placed both of her hands on the wooden handle and yanked it out. She stumbled backwards, tripping onto the dirt floor. She hoisted herself up and dusted her skirt off. She leaned against a tree, spotting her weapon on the ground. She picked it up, getting ready to send it back into another tree, when she heard a loud roar near by. She looked up and saw a flock of birds flying away in the distance.
"Dragon," was her first thought. "Here's my chance." Like most Vikings [of other islands] she ran towards the sound. Too caught up on looking for the beast, she didn't notice a tree root sticking out of the ground and ended up tripping on it. She cursed under her breath and quickly hoisted herself up, as well as her axe.
She arrived in a grassy meadow, surrounded by trees, when she noticed a Monstrous Nightmare. She stopped behind some shrubs and stared at the monster. She took notice of its scales that were a deep purple and its long claws. She stepped closer before dodging behind a tree when she saw three Vikings charging towards the beast. She hid, hoping they wouldn't see her.
She peered at the scene and noticed the trio was too busy battling the dragon. She stared in amazement at how they were attacking with no signs of any fear. They waved their weapons, each man had a shield and a sword or axe. However, none of the Vikings actually hit the dragon; it was dodging all their strikes. It was basically useless to have the weapons in their hands.
However, she was interested in what they were doing and leaned in closer, trying to see the faces of the three men. She noticed that one of the Vikings was her own neighbor named Egil. Another one of the men was named Helge. She struggled to see the last one's face. She squinted her eyes, wishing she had an eyeglass until she realized it was...her dad!
The girl quickly pulled herself against the bark. "Oh Gods," she thought. If her father saw her there, she would be in a bucket load of trouble. She needed to get out of there as quickly as possible without being seen. She glanced back to see them occupied with the dragon and started jogging between the trees, towards the village. However, something made her stop in her tracks.
The Monstrous Nightmare had set itself on fire, the flames cackling on its scales, and its glow reflecting on the trees. The three Vikings backed away from the fire-coated beast, fear filling their eyes instead of the determine faces they wore seconds ago. The dragon's eyes gleamed with pleasure of the men's fear and seemed to grin.
It were as if the Gods were trying to get her in trouble. The beast slowly started crawling towards the men. Egil and Helge dropped their weapons and ran off, leaving the girl's father alone to face the Nightmare. It slowly pushed her father against a tree, knocking his weapons out of his hands with its snout. Her father stood up tall, getting ready to punch it if needed. Her father was usually calm but if he needed to kick ass, he would.
Meanwhile, the two Vikings tried to lure the dragon by throwing rocks at it. However, they were making no effects on the dragon. The Monstrous Nightmare knocked the men off their feet with a swoosh of its tail and set them scrambling away again.
She turned her attention to the dragon and her dad. Her father's face had sweat rolling down his forehead. He continued holding up his hands which caused the dragon to grow bored; his fire-covered body dying down. The dark-haired teen let out a sigh of relief, thinking that everything would turn out fine. However the dragon had other plans.
A deep growl came from its throat, slowly opening its snout. It was obvious what the monster was about to do. Her father knew what it was going to do and punched it. The dragon roared and attempted to bite him, however he jumped out in time. He tried to fight off the beast but didn't have much luck with it.
"What should I do?" the girl thought, biting her lip nervously. She wanted to help but she wasn't sure how. She glanced at her fathers shield that landed not too far from her and back at her father. She looked back and forth between both of them several times, not know what to do, but she knew she had to make a decision soon.
She had two possible choices. One of them was to run back village and try to get help, before her father was burned to death . Or...
