Well this is just a random little one-shot I wrote when I was bored. Might expand to a two-shot. Please enjoy!
Alice raced to the tea table. She had been in Overland for two years and was eager to see her old friends again. When she finally made it to her destination and burst through the trees, the sight she was met with was forever burned into her memory. Whether that was good or bad, Alice did not yet know.
Tarrant Hightopp was sitting at his usual place at the head of the tea table, but something was off about the way he was seated. He was hunched over the table with his head in his hands.
"Tarrant?" Alice called hesitantly. When he didn't answer, she tried again, calling "Hatter?" Still no response. Slowly Alice approached him and tilted his face up. What she saw there shattered her heart; broke it beyond repair. The Mad Hatters eyes were a coal black color, without the barest hint of life to them. Those dull, soulless orbs seemed to accuse her.
"Why?" they seemed to ask her. "Why didn't you come before?"
Alice collapsed; her legs unable to support her weight any longer. She fell into the black abyss without knowing if anyone would catch her. She was shattered.
Shorter than I hoped it would be, but still decent. If you want a second chapter, which will be the opposite of this, where Hatter goes to Overland and finds Alice, let me know. Review please!
