AN: Just messing about with describing small moments in time. A look, a touch, an evoked memory etc. Try it, it's fun :) When I wrote this one it had nothing to do with SG-1, I just changed it so it would fit our two favourite characters.

Summary: Another short one-shot set very early S1, before Jack and Sam have had time to get to know each other. Set in commissary. Fledgling friendship/romance potential. 200 words.

FLEETING GLANCE

It was moment in time as he walked by, a simple half-second glance. 'Was she, did she, is she?' his eyes asked with guarded curiosity. His conclusion was masked by the turn of a head, back to concentrating on steady forward motion.

The intimate connection had stripped back the walls and in that fraction all was defined, with the clarity of rings emanating from the touch of a stone as it skips across a glassy surface. In that heart's breath they each recognised something of themselves in the other.

But this time, unlike other such fleeting glances the ripples settled deeper, opening questions, causing wonder and awaking an ancient primal need. The truth was there, honestly revealed for only two, in the crowded foray, to see. Quickly the knowledge settled inwards, drawing up matching small smiles that neither eye could see. The attraction existed alright. This story was far from over.

Turning back he approached her table. "Hey Captain, mind if I join you?"

She dipped her head in a small smile and shifted her tray over. "Of course not Sir, glad of the company."

Gently he slipped in beside her and once again a simple glance passed between them.
