As I sit, slowly dying, there are so many things I want to say to so many people…

Doctor, you were right. I am afraid to die. (1) I am afraid…an emotionally-controlled Vulcan…I was wrong, Doctor.

Lieutenant Uhura, my will to be Vulcan kept me from saying…you sing very well. (2)

Mr. Chekov….all of your head injuries….illogical.

Mother…I am sorry. I am so sorry that I never told you that I love you. (3)

Father…I am glad that we were able to…make up, as the human saying goes, even if it was only for Mother. (4)

Nurse Chapel…I respected you. I think that if you had not been…attracted to me (5)-and if, on occasion, I hadn't behaved, as the human saying goes…like a jerk (6)…we could have been friends.

Mr. Scott…thank you. Thank you for being there and for being…a miracle worker. You saved the ship so many times.

Mr. Sulu…if you do not become a Captain, then Starfleet needs to…open their eyes. (7)

Lieutenant Saavik-trust the Admiral. You are a fine young female Vulcan. And…you are in love with the Admiral's son, David Marcus. (8)

Admiral…Jim. You were one of my best friends. I am so sorry for putting through the…ceremony on Vulcan. (9) I never forgave myself, even though you weren't dead. And the Doctor was right-I did show emotion for once in my life…Jim, now I freely admit it.

Why can't I ever say these things? Because I am a Vulcan, and a Vulcan would be-shamed-for saying these things. Why am I giving up my life? It's not because the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few-the one (10)-it was because no matter what the cost, this ship- the U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701-and the majority of it's crew must survive.

My lips start to form the words "I am sorry; forgive me?"-but my mind starts to slip into darkness.
