i'm sorry i didn't get a chance to say good-bye to you. i'm living in a safe place now. i know i really scared you with what happened and then just disappeared, but you have to understand that i just want to be accepted and safe in a place where there are people like me.

yes, there's downfalls to being with people like me, but i hope that you can understand some day that i did it for your and my own safety. i don't want to face the hatred of my kind without others who understand. i did love you… this envelope will represent my heart. when i send it i'll wish it luck with its depart, even.

i know a letter isn't quite as effective as this would be in person, but i can only send it off and hope that someday you get why i left. or even if you don't you can somehow find it in your loving heart to forgive me. i'm learning to control my powers from other mutants. maybe someday i'll come back to new orleans and show you if you want, or just disappear on. i'm learning quickly, so maybe it'll be sooner than we both think. i just have the image of you flying through the wall every time i deal a hand and i can't help shuddering.

i hope that your recovery went better than they keep telling me it did, because when i finally do make it back down there, i want to see your beautiful face again. i miss your kisses more than i miss even my own family. they weren't really that much of a family compared to the way yours treated me anyway. i hope i can beat you at poker now. with how badly i lost last time, one can only hope a mutation with cards would be in my favor. but i could be wrong.

i intend to marry you, jamie. i always have intended that—from the very first day i met you, you made me feel alive and normal. as if i'm not the freak everyone made me out to be. and i thank you for that if nothing else. i'm coming back, jamie. i promise. i told you once, i tell you always. remy and jamie forever.
