So this fanfic kind of stemmed the same way The Wolf and his Rose did, there is a line in the books about if Robb had to fall into a women's arms why couldn't it be Margaery Tyrells. Well several times in the book people think life would be a lot simpler if Tommen was older then Joffrey. So that's what this Fanfic is about. At the beginning of this story really starts at the beginning of season two Tommen is 14 as is Sansa and Joffrey is 10 but with the same personality.'
"I have a son, you have a daughter, will join our houses." Those were Robert Baratheon's words that started this mess. Sansa had thought the shy boy was very handsome, like the pretty poetry reading lovers in the stories and songs, first he did nothing when his brother was terrible to her sister and they both lost their direwolves for it. She didn't really blame him for it because she really did nothing either and she was mad at her father for following orders. It wasn't until the king died that things truly got terrible her father was put in a dungeon, she begged for mercy and he promised to give it. And then the crown prince Joffrey Jealous of his older brother decided to take things into his own hands and murder her father on behalf of his brother the king.
Tommen swore he had nothing to do with it and she believed him he was to spineless to even stop his baby brother much less kill a renowned lord but that didn't make her hate him any less, Robb marched south hopefully soon he would free her from this entire mess.
Sansa sat next to Tommen at his brother's name day tournament the last thing she wanted to do was celebrate Joffrey. But the queen ordered her to sit next to Tommen, so she did, she barley watched the knights on their horses, Joffrey wanted something much crueler but Cersei for once did not allow it.
Tommen kept looking over at his fiancée she was so beautiful and sad he never knew what to say to her. "My lady-" He started getting her attention before they both turned to Joffrey who was having his guards drown some poor knight in wine.
"You can't!" Sansa said astonishing Joffrey and Tommen. She was normally so quiet, and Tommen couldn't believe how brave she was standing up to his brother, something he could not seem to manage.
"What did you say!" Joffrey barked back from the other side of Tommen who sat between them.
"I only mean that it's bad luck to kill a man on your name day." Sansa said quickly she looked at Tommen for help not sure why he could never stop him from doing anything.
"What kind of peasant superstition is that!" Joffrey spats.
Tommen couldn't bare the thought of his horrible brother hurting Sansa he was already destroying their relationship as it was.
"She's right brother, a man who sows on his name day reaps all year." Tommen told him, and Joffrey pouted.
"Fine put him in a cell and all have him killed tomorrow, the fool!" Joffrey pouted.
"He is a fool, your so cleaver to see it, perhaps he would make a better fool then a knight." Sansa told the little boy, Joffrey loved praise.
"Yes, I will make you my newest fool!" Joffrey declared. "A gift on my name day from my brother the king."
"Thank you, prince, and you my lady." The knight said he truly thanked Sansa, she had saved this mans life and Tommen realized he had done nothing nearly as brave when his uncle arrived. "my king!" The poor knight said to him he could not hide the pain and hate in his eyes if he was stronger this wouldn't ever be happening.
Tyrion appeared with an interesting following of Vale tribesmen, "Beloved nephew!" He said Tommen started to go to Tyrion but Tyrion stopped him with a look and bowed, it would be unfit of a king to hug his uncle no matter how much he wanted to. No matter how worried he was for him.
"I heard uncle how brave you were in battle." Tommen told him, and Tyrion smiled, he was a good boy, the poor fool.
"Well we have to fight this war your brother started don't we." He said but all Joffrey did was pout and turn away.
"Look at you more beautiful than ever!" Tyrion said to Myrcella kissing her cheek and spoke with his nephews and niece for a moment before addressing Sansa. "My lady I am sorry for your loss." He said sincerely.
"Sorry? Her father was a traitor I executed for the good of the realm!" Joffrey shouted.
"Even so he was her father, after so recently loosing your own dear father you can sympathize." Tyrion said but Joffrey just starred at Sansa till she started to say what the queen had told her she must say, Joffrey would no doubt tell if she didn't.
"My father was a traitor, my mother and brother are traitors, I am loyal to my one true love king Tommen." She said. Tommen hated the way she said his name so forced, without any real love.
"Of course, you are." Tyrion said with a sad smile. "King Tommen as your hand I will need to have words with you." Tyrion said he assumed Tommen would be happy to be relieved of Joffrey's company, but he saw the worried look he gave Sansa what would Joffrey do in his name if he were alone with her.
"There is a chill in the air perhaps you can escort your lady back to the keep." Tyrion suggested, and Tommen nodded.
"You have to control Joffrey!" Tyrion told his to kind nephew as they walked.
"I can't, nobody can mother lets him do whatever he likes!" Tommen said defeated.
"But you are the king!" Sansa told him quietly, desperately she hadn't meant to, she was pretending not even to listen, but it slide out.
"I….I cannot have him killed he's my brother. I wish I could do something, but I can't." Tommen said
Tyrion realized he wouldn't get far with Tommen not like this, but he seemed more eager to please Sansa, he was that age, and she was beautiful.
"I have not yet congratulated you on your engagement." Tyrion said Sansa looked away, but Tommen beamed happily. "Yes, what a lovely couple you make." He said.
Lancel meet them as the neared the keep. "The queen Regent wishes to see her son the king!" he said.
"Very well, go nephew don't keep your mother, I will escort Sansa safely to her chambers." Tyrion promised Tommen nodded going off.
"My Nephew is a kind boy, he would never hurt you or your honor." Tyrion told Sansa as they walked.
"No but he would not defend me or my honor either." Sansa said softly. "I mean-"She started.
"No don't get shy now, Tommen is a good boy, Joffrey is not, Tommen will have to stop Joffrey, but he won't do it alone, I will help him of course but he needs a push, he doesn't have confidence but if he had the love of a beautiful girl." Tyrion started.
Sansa looked behind them Tyrion's man walked a few steps back, a sell sword who when seeing her skeptical look simply waved.
"you can speak freely in front of Bronn and myself."
"Tommen let Joffrey murder my father, Joffrey says your father is going to kill my brother, I do not love him."
"With your help I think we might be able to make peace with the young wolf and avenge your beloved father, but I'm going to need your help." Tyrion told her. "Tommen doesn't get nearly as much attention as Joffrey, when you see Tommen smile at him, talk to him." Tyrion encouraged before taking her to her room.
In the coming days Sansa did as bid, smiling and being kind to Tommen Cersei noticed right away, she had them followed, they would walk in the gardens he would talk, and she would politely listen, their was no love in her eyes just a demure girl doing as told, but he couldn't tell the difference at least not at first.
Cersei finally came to Sansa's chambers. She told her guards to wait outside and Sansa trembled she wasn't sure she would want to ever be alone with Cersei. "Little dove, I thought you were clever enough to not get on my nerves, clever enough to live but maybe you aren't."
"My queen I- "
"Shut up, stupid little girl. Running around the red keep acting like a slut. Do you know what happens to highborn girls who act like whores?"
"I am not a whore- "Sansa started strongly she was a Stark of Winterfell she was not going to get bullied. Tyrion promised to protect her.
"Oh, that's exactly what you are, Maybe you are not the right girl for Tommen, maybe you should wait and marry Joffrey instead, the bitch from highgarden can be queen and you can be Joffrey's forever after. Or maybe I will just have you strangled in your sleep. No, to simple. Tell me little dove, what do you know of Elia Martell?"
"S-She was prince Rhagars wife. She…pasted in the sacking of Kingslanding along with her children."
"Pasted, what a delicate word for a delicate girl. The Mountain came in and killed her daughter and dashed her baby boys head against the wall crushing his little skull. He still had her children's blood on her when he raped her before he ripped her in half. Most people don't know she was not supposed to die, my father use to say, 'Elia Martell died because I hadn't specifically said she should be spared.' A misunderstanding, an accident" Cersei said she moved to Sansa. "Imagine what he would do to you for me on purpose." Cersei said playing with her hair.
She went back to the door. Lady Sansa is not to leave her chambers, if any maid or servant tries to feed her, kill them." Cersei told the guards before leaving.
Sansa went to the floor she would only allow herself to cry now that she was gone. She heard her sentence was to die in this room. She wondered what Cersei would say when Tommen asked about her where Sansa went to. The maids would stop trying after the first death, maybe the second. And Lord Tyrion Lannister, she wondered if her coconspirator would remember her in her time of need. Or if she had stood against Cersei just to die like her father before her. She cried having nothing else to do, she played for such a short time to have lost the game of thrones.
Cersei was so focused on Sansa and making sure her plan would work that she didn't notice until it was to late, Tyrion's influence on Tommen. Tommen named Tyrion his Lord Regent until he comes of age and had his little brother confined to his chambers for acting without the king's approval.
"HOW DARE YOU!" Cersei screamed going into Tyrion's chambers. "And you used Sansa that little whore!" Cersei shouted.
"Come now, that's no way to talk to your future queen."
"Is that what you told her, that she would get to be queen, you didn't tell her you were selling her back to her brother?"
"Were not, not that it concerns you." Tyrion told her.
"So, you are going to let Robb Stark kill your brother and for what? To have that Sansa for yourself the little slut!" Cersei said her rage was strong her eyes a red from her angry tears.
"Tommen and Sansa will both sent Letters in their own hand with their own words to Robb Stark, the headline is a truce between our families with their marriage, Joffrey will answer for his crimes, they will get compensation and his father's sword and bones along with Tommen decided all by himself to make Robb the Warden of the North which was expected but also to return all the bodies of the northmen to their homes and to pay for whoever finds Arya to turn her over to the Starks." Tyrion said he paused to look up and see his sisters anger. "You know when you and Joffrey don't get in the way he can be a very good king."
"You mean you are a very good king when you control him?" She asked the hurt seen on her face.
"I'm not controlling him, he even rejected my advice to send Sansa home, he wants to go ahead with the marriage, she has no idea." Tyrion said. "The Starks will be here by the next moon." Tyrion told her. "And they will be married."
Sansa was starving, that was the plan after all, it took so much effort to sit up from her bed when she heard the commotion from the other side of her door.
She heard the screams. Her blood boiled was it the mountain, was he finally here for her?
When the door broke open it was Tyrion's man. Bronn just smiled seeing the hope return to her face for the first time in days.
"Come on Come on, attend to the future queen." Bronn said and servants came in with food and drink. She thought she could faint. They brought in beautiful dresses and jewels.
"Lord Tyrion wishes to thank you for your part in his crusade against the dowager queen mother. "
"A Lannister always repays his debts." She said softly and so does Cersei she thought.
"That's what they always fucking say don't they." Bronn laughed. "I will be at your door to keep you safe until your brother gets here."
"M-my Brother!" She said excited. Ignoring her pounding headache.
"Eat my Lady you need to eat." Bronn told her.
She did, she was so hungry it was hard to eat more than a few bites, but she pushed through it, she would not die today, she would not die of starvation or the mountain, she was still in the game. She was still a player. She would try harder, be better to the spineless boy she hates if it meant being safe, if it meant going home, but if they went home the Lannister's would always be out their waiting to repay their debts. Oh, the great game was only beginning.
Authors Notes: So a lot in my mind went into Tommen's character as the older brother, I tried to keep him more or less the same at his core, but he is still young he has time to grow and change.
