Instinct

I panted and wiped my mouth as I stood up straight again, it almost ached as I took in every breath of air. It was like charcoal was being flushed down my lungs as I let out a horrifically harsh cough. I took in one last shaky breath before I gasped as Robin jumped up, round kicking the villain to oblivion!

I smiled. Defeated at last. But then I frowned.

I looked around once more. The animals were caged in their small pens like pets, abused and bloody pets. The man who they had just took down had been addicted to quite a many of illegal drugs. Without a cause or reason, he had been holding a sort of mixed up breeding lab. The dogs were beaten and bruised until knocked unconscious at times for the mans enjoyment. All of us found this just gross and wrong.

I could hardly stand to even stand in the room though. The emotions flooded me, their emotions, and every time each one of them whined, I could actually understand what they meant unlike the others. They may of knew the dogs were in bad shape, hurt, injured, sick or hungry, but I could fluently understand what each of them actually said.

And it hurt to listen to their crying. I guessed it was equivalent to humans for me. If they had all been humans, we all would have been affected on a great level because we would be able to understand and relate, none of them could understand the animals like I could though.

So I guessed I was the only one who was almost in hysterics, because I could relate.

It was disgusting.

The others finally, out of breath and a bit beaten themselves, went into the middle of the room. All the dogs whined and cried, sharing their sad stories with me. I breathed in and fidgeted in my spot as I swallowed down a dry lump that had formed over the passing time in my throat.

The others simply went to go and unlock the cages by then. They were difficult though and it took them all a while to even figure out how to simply use the lock.

I stifled a sob and fell to my knees.

There were so many small little pups, babies.

Then I saw something that I knew I wouldn't be able to erase from my memory, not in a million years.

There was a small cage, too small to even fit one of the larger dogs. It was shadowed mostly except for the very front of the cage. A small figure began to mvoe towards the bars and as it got there I saw a horrifying image that was burned into my memory.

It's ear was much shorter than the other, in a ripped shape as the hair sparsely grew out from the very end of it, a thick pink skin at the end showed scarring and that it had been ripped off mostly, the tip of nose was at an odd flat angle and also had a thick pink ending to it, and finally an eye socket showed. Revealing that where two normal eyes should of been, there was only one which looked around frantically.

That's when I couldn't take it and I screamed. I took a loud gulp of air and fell to the floor.

"Beast Boy!" I heard Robin scream as he came running to my side, \

"Friend?" Starfire exclaimed as she followed suit along with the rest.

I curled into a fetal position as I looked at that same sad dog.

Robin tried to reach out the touch my arm as if to try and soothe me but I only screamed further.

It was simply my instinct.

I was thinking of making this a multi-chapter story, would anyone like this also? Please review!
