"He and I, we're not very much different at all." Riku seethes in the Darkness, not really quite sure of his sanity anymore, or whom he is speaking to in particular.
Maybe it was Kairi's Heartless vessel, or maybe he called out to Maleificent's voice in the shadows. But it didn't really matter much anymore, now did it?
He eyes his brunette friend, sulking on one of the higher levels of the pirate ship. He watches as Sora attempts to defeat Hook effortlessly. Gliding all around, duck and dog floating closely behind.
Sora makes it look so easy. How does he not feel misery, as he does? Riku is miserable. He thinks he's accomplishing something, but another part of his heart knows that he is not. The Darkness was supposed to fill the void in his heart, but it only created more depth.
At age Fourteen, Sora has already had to handle so much… and all done with a smile.
At age Fifteen, Riku has seen many dark things his eyes should have never allowed him to know. Dark, terribly evil things. All done with a smirk.
But there is very little truth behind these smiles and smirks.
For Sora envies Riku, being able to simply not care and going off and being able to leave a mess everywhere. He isn't able to do that… he'd feel much to guilty. So he cleans up every messy trail his best friend leaves for him, all with a smile.
And on the opposite side of the coin, Riku envies Sora. For simply being above it all. For simply being a better person, a denizen of the light. The Keybearer. So he hides behind his evil smirks, and pretends that it doesn't bother him. The fact that he should be cleaning up the messes, not his silly younger friend.
Two sides of the same coin, aren't very different after all.
If the option to trade places were presented to either of the two boys, they would be at a loss of words.
Which is the better scenario?
