Set of three drabbles (MSWord says they're each exactly 100 words and I trust it more than ff dot net) and with manga spoilers like whoa? I got all caught up on and in the manga, and damn but it needed to be written. I was only tearing up a little bit. Really.
Three times Sasuke has been betrayed by his brother aka History Repeating
The first time Sasuke is betrayed, he was kind of small, and a little naïve, so when Itachi went and killed the entire clan, it was despair that consumed him, and there was no one to ease the hole where family had been and he was alone because his brother had taken everything. The first time Sasuke only knows it's a betrayal through the playback in his dreams. Sasuke is determined the first time will be the last time. Next time they meet, he'll kill his brother, and maybe it's a betrayal, but it won't be one that weakens Sasuke.
The second time Sasuke is betrayed, he had a sword through his brother's body. Of course, it wasn't real, by any definition, but the words were said, and Sasuke can't help it when he remembers; even if he was just acting, Itachi had been a kind and caring older brother and nothing can make him forget it. The second time, Itachi isn't cool or terrifying or any of the things he had been before. The second time, Itachi is fucking insane and he's going to kill his little brother, after he takes the eyes cultivated by the hatred he planted.
The third time is when Itachi doesn't. They're exhausted, and Itachi is dying and Sasuke might be too, but then Itachi is dead, and not because Sasuke killed him either. The third time Sasuke is betrayed; his older brother poked him like he did ten years ago, and died when he could have taken what he had won, and there's blood on both their faces, but it's alright because Uchiha men can't cry, and Uchiha men have been doing this for generations, if Itachi is to be believed, which maybe he shouldn't because that's three times he's betrayed Sasuke now.
