This is a short oneshot songfic set after Doomsday. Rose cannot take in the loss of the Doctor. Song is Close to You by The Carpenters. I have made up some of my own flashback dialogue, so don't yell at me for changing quotes or anything.

Disclaimer: I do not own Doctor Who (sadly) or the song or anything in fact… The world is an unfair place…

Why do birds suddenly appear

Every time you are near

Just like me, they long to be

Close to you.

Rose sat, a lone figure on her window sill staring out at the park behind the block of flats. Brightly coloured birds twittered merrily in the silver birches, enjoying the spring sun. They reminded her of the Doctor. Her Doctor. He was always smiling, always cheerful. Never stopped talking, never stopped saving the planet. Never said he would leave her…

A single tear fell from Rose's glistening eyes.

She missed the comforting feeling of his hand in hers. His arm around her waist, holding her close.

Another tear fell.

Why do stars fall down from the sky

Every time you walk by

Just like me, they long to be

Close to you.

She missed the times they had together on far away planets somewhere in the Universe, where another star would twinkle at them, where the catalyst for trouble was always…the Doctor.

A sparkling tear fell from her other eye.

But it didn't matter. He would save the day. Again and again, but never abandoning her.

"How long are you gonna stay with me?"

"Forever."

Well that was what she had always thought.

On the day that you were born

The angels got together

And decided to create a dream come true

So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold

And starlight in your eyes of blue.

She could feel the soft skin of his finger on her cheek as he brushed a strand of gold out of her blue eyes. Liquid stars sparkled on the surface of the pale blue skies in her eyes.

"How do I look?"

"Like an angel…like a dream come true."

She smiled a watery smile and flung herself into his waiting arms. Nothing could go wrong, not whilst she was in his arms, being hugged so tightly that she had not a single tear left to shed.

Now everything was wrong. She was so alone. Her tears would never end. But then neither would her love for the Lonely God.

A/N: Please review! This is dedicated to everyone who cried at the end of "Doomsday". (So pretty much everyone)
