Patrick, Star

Sometimes Lana Arwen Lazar thought she would have lost her mind during the FAYZ if it wasn't for Patrick. During almost everything, he was there, offering comfort. She has nightmares now about the FAYZ, ones that would send any normal person spiralling into insanity. One night, it would be the mass of green crystals that was once the gaiaphage. The next nightmare would be of Gaia and all the death and destruction she caused. Last nightmare had been of the vultures circling around her on the first day inside the dome. She had been having this nightmare regularly ever since the doctor told her Patrick had caught a sickness from the coyotes, one that would almost certainly lower his lifespan quite dramatically.

But Lana Arwen Lazar appeared confident on the outside until that fateful day, that was ironically on the anniversary of the FAYZ barrier coming down. Sanjit had came to visit with his siblings, and upon opening the door, had been greeted with Patrick lying in a heap on the floor.

When Sanjit shouted out for Lana, she came sprinting, hoping to high heaven that it wasn't Patrick, because he was the only thing that had never abandoned her or sent her away, the only thing that had always been there for her.

But of course, Lana Arwen Lazar's luck had never been very good. After a few frantic attempts to resuscitate him and an emergency run to the vet's, she finally understood that he was gone. Little Peace had dearly loved Patrick as well, and insisted that Lana hold a funeral for him.

So that's what she did.

Patrick was cremated and it took quite a long time to gather everyone who had known Patrick up. So two long weeks later, Lana Arwen Lazar sat on a chair in Sam, Astrid and Diana's backyard. The large outdoor space was packed with survivors of the FAYZ, as everyone who was in the FAYZ had practically worshipped the Healer. Even now, quite a large amount of the people there owed a massive debt to her for saving their lives a few years ago. They still felt a duty to her, and so they came to mourn at Patrick's funeral.

The funeral wasn't really a funeral, it was more like a get-together for FAYZ survivors. Nobody seemed to take holding a full on funeral for a dog seriously. However bizarre they thought the funeral was, all of the people in attendance felt a twinge in their hearts at the expression of pure agony on Lana's face.

Lana Arwen Lazar was truly heartbroken that her trusty companion was gone from her, but at least he was away from the pain.

Maybe he was looking down at her from heaven.

Maybe he missed her as much as she missed him.

Maybe he finally lived up to his name and was now really Patrick the Star.

No matter where he was now, Lana Arwen Lazar knew she would miss him for the rest of her days.
