May
She was getting ready to leave Ever Grande City. After a long day of battling challengers, all she wanted to do was go home and embrace her bed, when the last person she wanted to see approached her. The memories flooded her mind all at once. She tried not to remember all the pain she went through, how long it took to heal. Her heart was in her stomach.
Knowing exactly why he was here, the champion let him speak, not letting out a word, when finally he asked her.
"What do you say?" Steven asked. His steel blue eyes showed hope, and she knew what he had wanted her to say. But she couldn't say it. If he had come to her a year ago, like she prayed every night that he would, then there wouldn't have been any hesitation.
But it's too late now.
"No." May simply said.
Immediately his lips parted in shock. "No?"
"No."
Steven took a deep breath, as if gathering the courage to speak. "Why not?" He choked.
"I can't go through all of that again." She quietly uttered.
"But May-"
She interrupted him. "I can't, Steven. I don't want to. I was willing to move on, let it all go, and be with you, but you dragged it out." He winced, remembering all of it. She continued. "I wish you had realized this sooner. You made it too hard."
May paused for a moment. She could see the despair in his eyes. It killed her, and took every cell in her body to say the next part. "I'm sorry."
Steven stayed silent. May knew why. He couldn't convince her; her mind was made up.
The brunette took out her Poke Ball and summoned Latias. The crimson dragon cheerfully greeted her with a grunt. May climbed on the Pokemon's back, and caressed her neck. "Littleroot, Latias," she softly said.
As much as she wanted to just sleep forever and forget about this, May needed to speak to her best friend. He would know what to say.
Maybe she wasn't over him.
May was a very difficult month for me, so I decided to write about it. There's no closure in my situation, so who knows? Maybe this will have a happy ending. For now, it's just a one shot. I hope you all liked it. Reviews would be really nice!
