DISCLAIMER; No, sadly, I don't own Fullmetal Alchemist, though if anyone wants to sell it to me, I've got 6.89 dollars in my pocket.

"Riza. Why.. why is it, that I fight, again..?" she looks up. "I - I don't know, Roy."

"Then, why is it that you fight?"

"That's easy. You, I want to protect you, and I want to help you change this place, change this into a better place." He lets his eyes wander up, "I've forgotten, Riza, why I'm fighting. I had reasons, all the right reasons, but.. somewhere along the way, I think.. I'd forgotten them. In the midst of all this." This. Ishbal. "Sometimes, I think, I can't stand it any longer, and I don't know why I'm here. And, I'm suffocating, sometimes, Riza. Sometimes, I can't breathe, and it's.." his voice cracks, "it's terrible. This things we do."

"I know, Roy."

"Then, why do we fight..?" he questions, and his eyes turn to her, searching, reaching for some sort of logic to balance the cruelty he performs.

"It's.. so, sad, Roy. That you should be gifted with such a great alchemy. But we.. there's an endless repetition of destruction. And stupid, stupid, meaningless, wars. Because we don't understand it, I think, we have no way of stopping it. We make mistakes, and God, we get hurt, but we keep believing in miracles, Roy, looking for a truth we can't yet see. Remember what you said..? You said to me, 'I'll make everyone happy. The ones we love, the ones we care for, the ones we dislike, the disobedient ones, the living ones, I'll make them all happy. ALL of them.' You're that miracle, Roy."

"I.. it's too much, Riza."

"I know, that's why I'm here." her eyes are soft as she gazes at him, and he reads the thing she's been saying to him for so long, the thing she dares not say. The thing she tacitly says, every time she speaks to him. The one thing he'd die to hear, and the one thing he lives for.

The thing she implies into her every word.

I love you.
