Set in Twilight: Eclipse

"Dad I am hanging out with Alice after school so don't wait up for me." I shouted from the kitchen.

He walked up behind me. "Im right here Bells. No need to shout."

I turned around. "Sorry, I thought you were in your room."

He gruffed in acknowledgement. "So going over to hang out with Alice, huh?"

"Yeah." I said flashing him a half smile. Truth be told I was going to hang with Edward but I mean Alice would be in the same house…

"Bells?"

"Yeah?" I said snapping out of my thought.

"Your phone is buzzing." He said tossing me the small cellphone from his seat at the small, kitchen table.

Text from Alice: You need to get over here. Don't go to school. Just come straight here. (Sent 8:22)

Text from Alice: Wow that sounded life or death. No one is hurt, just come over before school. (Sent: 8:24)

I grabbed a couple slices of bread from the open bread bag on the counter and grabbed my keys.

"Bella? Why in such a hurry?"

"I have this questions to ask my bio teacher, about the lab assigned last night. Just want to get there before the bell rings."

He looked at me questionably before nodding his head and returning back to his coffee. "Alright."

I pulled into the Cullen's driveway and ran to the door. I hesitated at the door deciding if I should knock or just walk in when Alice opened the door. "Oh thank goodness you're here." She said grabbing me at the elbow and yanking me inside.

She closed the door behind me, letting the warm of the house settle over us. In fact it was really warm in here.

"What's the matter?" I said looking back at Alice.

"Come here." She said motioning to the other room.

"Alice?" I said hesitantly.

We rounded the corner into the living room and there was Edward curled into the center couch. He was pale—well a lot paler than usual—his cheeks were flushed, and he was shivering.

"Edward?" I said kneeling down next to his head.

He looked up at me slowly before going into a small coughing fit.

"What's wrong with him?" I asked, frantically looking back at Alice.

"He's sick. It's extremely rare but, sometimes regular human illnesses can manifest enough to effect the vampire immune system." She said looking sadly back at Edward. "Carlisle thinks it's the flu."

I turned back to Edward and ran my fingers through his hair. "So what do we do?"

"Same as you would for any regular flu. Wait for it to pass." Alice said walking over and sitting in the chair opposite. "It will hit him hard because his body hasn't been sick in, well….over a century."

I looked back at him and kissed him on the forehead.

"Bella." He said looking up at me weakly. "I'm fine. It's okay."

I smirked, "You've never been a good liar."

I placed the back of my fingers across his forehead. "You're burning up." I said frowning.

"Alice do you have a thermometer?"

"Carlisle is at the hospital and he said he would bring one home after his shift."

I nodded. "Where is everyone else?" I asked, suddenly taking in the quiet house.

"They have all been out hunting. They are supposed to return in a couple days. Edward and I went a couple weeks ago so we didn't go with them."

"Bella?"

"Yeah?" I said turning back to the sick vampire.

"I…I think I am going to be sick." He said quietly, convulsively swallowing.

I felt Alice run out of the room and come back behind me, placing a bucket under Edward's chin. I rubbed his back slowly as his face went a sharp shade of green and he got violently sick into the bucket. He closed his eyes, trying to quell the nausea, to no avail, once more leaning over the bucket.

When he was finished he leaned back against the couch cushion, breathing heavily. "I am so sorry you had to see that."

I frowned at his apology. "Don't be sorry. You're sick. You can't help it."
