Dancing was not his forte. Severus preferred to sit back with a firm scowl and observe all of the idiotic frivolity around him. He had no use for dancing.

"Hello."

Severus glanced down his nose at Hermione Granger's smiling face. He nodded once; that was as polite a response as she would get from him. But she wasn't going away. What on Earth did this woman want?

"You surely aren't going to stand here all night," she said after a few moments, looking up sideways at him. Severus snorted quietly as an answer and looked away before quickly looking back as he noticed her outstretched hand, her subtle, knowing look.

Certainly she doesn't...she would never want to...

He stared at her. "You wish to...with me?"

Hermione said nothing, but waited with a calm look upon her face. She raised her eyebrows slightly, placing a hand on her hip when he started to protest.

"People will talk."

She only looked at him still, a slight smile gracing her lips, having a feeling there was going to be more.

"I've been a convicted murder, have very little money and a horrible temperament." She raised her eyebrows higher, not saying a word, waiting patiently for him to finish.

"I am not a nice man."

Hermione grinned and glanced down briefly before looking him in the eye.

"But do you dance?

AN: I was watching Wildfire...similar situation popped up. I couldn't resist. :) Oh, and I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who expressed interest in the short story "Deadalive." I'm so glad you liked it, but when I asked if you wanted it continued, I guess I hadn't really thought it through yet. It's good as-is, I think and I honestly don't have a clue where I would go with it. If you had thought of something you just wish would happen with all your heart, let me know and I'll see what I can do. But for now, we're going to call it 'completed.' :)
