Firestar waited until the whole Clan was gathered around him. "Cats of Thunderclan," He began, "the day has come that I never wanted to see. You all know Graystripe was lost to us when Twolegs trapped him in the old forest. Since then I've tried to believe that he was still alive, and that he'd come back to us one day. But now..." His voice faltered, and he stood a moment with his head bowed before going on.
"Graystripe!" The frantic voice called.
"I'm right behind you!" the gray deputy replied, his voice heavy with a pant. Behind them, two large Twolegs stomped ungracefully on the ground. A gasp of horror emitted from the she-cat before the gray deputy, as a ragging river came into sight.
"Graystripe!" the she-cat yowled again. Graystripe was by her side.
"We can try to walk through it, or swim," He dove into the water, his paws able to touch the ground. "It's safe, hurry!" He cried and the she-cat plunged into the water with him…
Then he straightened up and his voice was steadier "I have to face the fact that Thunderclan can't go on any longer without a deputy."
The Twolegs weren't far behind. They, too, stepped into the water. Their large hands reaching out and grabbing the she-cat. She yowled and scratched, but they wouldn't let her down. Graystripe was almost captured too, but he managed to get away, risking is balance. He crashed down below the surface, trying to use all they swimming skills he had to reach the surface.
He looked up at the darkening sky, where a single warrior of Starclan had appeared, right above the hollow.
But the gray deputy couldn't reach it. Finally, his lungs burning and his legs exhausted, he gave in. His eyes closed and his breathed in, lungs filling with liquid. Soon, his breath finally idled. And the river carried him away.
"Graystripe is dead."
Check out Luna Ligerstripe, she was the one who made this all happen. :3 We love you, Luna! Anyway, this is what I imagined when I read the ceremony. Read and Review!
