Disclaimer: I don't own Coldplay or House MD. I was listening to my music, and got inspired. I hope you like it :)
"What if there was no life
Nothing wrong, nothing right.
What if there was no time?
And no reason or rhyme?
What if you should decide
That you don't want me there by your side.
That you don't want me there in your life."
House sat alone in his office, letting the music take him over. His thoughts jumped from Tritter, and the case, to Cameron. He didn't want to go to jail. He couldn't handle being in there. Mostly, he couldn't handle being away from her. She drove him nuts, argued with him constantly, but in a way, he liked.
"What if I got it wrong?
And no poem or song..
Could put right what I got wrong,
Or make you feel I belong
What if you should decide
That you don't want me there by your side
That you don't want me there in your life.
Oooooh, that's right
Let's take a breath, jump over the side
Oooooh, that's right
How can you know it when you don't even try?
Oooooh, that's right."
"A little squishy for you, isn't it?" Wilson's voice didn't really faze him, he just shrugged. "House…look…I'm sorry."
House looked up from his desk, locking eyes with Wilson. "You wanted me to get help. You wanted to fix me. I understand. I do have a problem."
Wilson sat down in the chair closest to his desk. "What's wrong then? Other than the obvious."
"There are times, when I wish I had never met her. That she had never decided to do her fellowship here…" He sighed.
"Every step that you take
Could be your biggest mistake
It could bend or it could break
But that's the risk that you take
What if you should decide
That you don't want me there in your life.
That you don't want me there by your side"
"And then there are times…when I feel like I haven't seen her enough in one day. I make excuses to see her if she is in the clinic, or I check up on her if she is in the lab. And now this shit… I don't know if she even thought about helping Tritter."
Wilson laughed. "You know she didn't. The last thing she would ever want to do is hurt you. And that would have done it…I know from experience." His smile faded, as he looked at House. "I am sorry."
House smiled slightly. "I know. Just drop it. We are focusing on me." He stood up, grabbing his grey and red tennis ball. Wilson watched as he tossed it in the air, then caught it, repeating this over and over again.
"Oooooh, that's right
Let's take a breath, jump over the side.
Oooooh, that's right
How can you know it when you don't even try?
Oooooh, that's right
Oooooh, that's right
Let's take a breath, jump over the inside
Oooooh, that's right
You know that darkness always turns into light
Oooooh, that's right."
The song ended, and House glanced over at Wilson. "I love you, you know. She drives me nuts…but I love her."
"I know." Wilson stood up, patting House's shoulder. "I know."
House watched him leave, waiting for the song to start over. He drowned in the words once more, throwing and catching the ball. His breathe caught in his throat when the ball was thrown at a bad angle, and he wasn't able to catch it. But he heard it being caught. Glancing over, he saw Cameron standing there, with the ball in her hand.
"Hi."
"Hey. Need a ride home?" She placed the ball on his desk. House nodded, and grabbed his jacket, before walking around the desk, beside her.
She looped her arm with his, and looked up at him. "I love you too."
House's jaw dropped for a moment, until it clicked that she must have heard him and Wilson. He smiled.
"Good."
