Rory Gilmore smiled to herself as she walked down the main street of Stars Hollow. She had just received a call on her cell-phone from her boyfriend, telling her to meet him at Luke's Diner for Thanksgiving dessert.
It had definitely been an interesting Thanksgiving thus far. She and her Mother, Lorelei, had had at least three meals already. But if meant having dessert with Jess Mariano, Rory would make room.
There was something special between them. Rory couldn't really put her finger on what it was, but it was something amazing, that was for sure. And it made her tingle from the tips of her fingers to the tips of her toes.
When she walked into Luke's, Jess was sitting at a table, waiting for her. She smiled as he stood and crossed to her, kissing her as a greeting. She smiled and looked at the table. Two pieces of pumpkin pie and two mugs of hot apple cider.
"This is so cute." Jess smiled as she down in the chair adjacent to his. "You think so? I thought it would be nice to have dessert together." Rory smiled and nodded, taking a bite of the pie.
"Delicious. Did you make it yourself?" Jess grinned. "With my own two hands." She knew he was lying, but he was still cute. So they began eating and then Rory looked at him.
"I know something we should do." Jess raised his eyebrows. "What?" Rory smiled. "We should tell each other what we're thankful for…about each other, I mean. I read it somewhere."
Jess shook his head. "A Harvard newspaper or Cosmopolitan?" Rory grinned. "Does it matter?" Jess shook his head. "I guess not. You go first." He took a sip of his cider and waited.
"Okay. I'm thankful for your sense of humor." Jess smiled and shook his head. "I'll be completely shallow and say that I'm thankful for the fact that you're hot." Rory couldn't help but laugh.
"Okay.", She said. "I'm thankful for your split personality." Jess raised his eyebrows. "What?" Rory smiled. "You're one person with me, but a totally different person with everyone else. It's…endearing."
Jess laughed this time. "Okay." He put his fork down. "I'm thankful for your hands." He took them in his. "They're so tiny and delicate. Yet they leave such painful claw marks." Rory felt herself blush.
"Sorry, didn't mean to embarrass you." Rory looked at him and smiled as she said, "Yes you did." Then she looked into his eyes. "I'm thankful for your eyes. When they meet mine, they make me forget what it is that I wanted to say."
They shared a smile. "I'm thankful for your kindness, to see past the jerk I was when I first got here and getting to know the real me." That was true and Jess knew that Rory was one of the few people in his life who would actually be able to penetrate his rough exterior.
"I'm thankful for all the time we get to spend together. I'm glad you came to Stars Hollow, Jess." He smiled. She was probably the only one who was, besides his Uncle Luke Danes. At times, anyway.
"I'm thankful for you, Rory. You made me realize what kind of man I want to be. Thank you." He leaned in and kissed her softly on the lips, then rested his forehead on hers. "Let's finish our pie." Rory nodded and smiled. "Okay. Happy Thanksgiving Jess." He smiled too. "Happy Thanksgiving Rory."
