Kurt's arms encircled the soft girl crying into his chest. Kitty was one of his closest friends, and he was always going to be there for her. He was there when she lost Illyana, and when Peter began dating someone else. They were there for each other when the X-Men were thought to be dead, supporting each other through the move to Excalibur. The only time he hadn't been there for her...

Well he didn't think about it.

And so he held her. He wasn't sure why she was crying, it was probably over Peter. They had broken up. It was time, even they could see their relationship was coming to an end, but that didn't mean it wasn't painful for both of them. All Kitty had wanted for so long was Peter, and then she had him for the briefest of moments before life intervened. Things happen, life moves on at an incredible pace, but as long as Kitty needed to cry, Kurt would be here to hold her.

"It vill be alright, Kätzchen." Her tears slowed as he rubbed her back and his tail wrapped around her legs. She pulled away and smiled weakly at him.

"Thank you, elf. You're always there for me when I need you." Kurt smiled, holding back the 'not always' sitting in his throat. Kitty was his best friend, the only X-Man he hadn't had a real falling out with. He hated that she was with Peter, sure when they were kids it was cute, but Peter was wrong for her. He didn't make her happy. Peter would always love his sister more than he did Kitty, but was the girl on Utopia even really Illyana anymore? Neither Kurt nor Kitty was sure. Kitty needed someone dedicated to her, and until she found that person, Kurt would be here for her.

He grabbed her hand and led her slowly to the TV room of the recently rebuilt academy so they could watch a movie and relax. He wasn't supposed to feel this way about her. He was supposed to be like a big brother, her best friend. He noticed it back on Excalibur. Things she'd do, conversations they'd have. It all made him want to gather her in his arms and kiss her.

But he couldn't.

Back then she was too young. And now, now when she is old enough? He couldn't. He was a man of god, and she was like family. The moral implications alone would make the rest of the team upset with him. And Logan, well Logan would kill him. So it stayed bottled up inside. He'd flirt with Ororo and Rachel and go on the occasional date, but never really settle down. He looked at Kitty, falling asleep on his chest, and he ran his fingers through her hair.

"Goodnight Kätzchen. Tings vill look better in ze morning."
