The Pinch
"Shhhh, it's ok baby boy." Jackie told Boone soothingly as she rocked him back and fourth.
Boone had woken up in his crib and discovered he was not being held and let his mother know his disapproval by screaming at the top of his lungs.
Jackie was beginning to think that there was something wrong with him, he was a very content baby if he was being held but he would scream bloody murder if he was laid down even for a short time, for example if Jackie had to run to the bathroom.
Jackie had tried everything to help him but nothing seemed to help, he even hated his swing, unlike all of her other children who had loved it, Ryan included.
Jackie had even tried to give him a warm bath and massage before he was laid down because it had helped Karlie sleep during the night when she'd been a baby (For a while she'd been a crabby baby at night, until Jill suggested giving her a warm bath and massage before bed time) but it didn't work for Boone either and Jackie was beginning to be at her wits end.
The kids were too, it made her feel very bad for Boone because the other kids doted over Ryan, always wanted to hold him and love on him because he never cried but they wanted nothing to do with Boone, they would get mad and cover their ears and most of the time they left the room entirely.
Jackie sat down with Boone in her arms rocking him back and forth.
Karlie glared at her baby brother, she couldn't take his crying anymore so she decided to help make him stop. She reached over and pinched him right on his arm but to her shock it didn't make him calm down it just made him scream louder.
"Karlie Allison, you do not pinch your baby brother, that is not ok, go to your time out chair." Jackie scolded.
Then Karlie started to cry but she did go over to her time out chair in the other room and sit down on it.
Jackie herself then started to cry, the chaos and craziness was getting to her.
After a few minutes passed she laid a still screaming Boone in his bassinette and then went into the room where Karlie was.
The little girl had tears streaming down her face.
"Karlie, can you tell mommy why you had to go to timeout?" Jackie asked her calmly, as she got down on her haunches so she would be at the child's eye level.
"Me pinch Boone." She answered.
"That's right, you did. Why did you do that?" Jackie asked.
"Because him cry all the time mama and he's too loud, it hurts my ears."
"I know he cries a lot sweetheart and I'm sorry, but you can't pinch him, that will make a big owie on him, alright?"
"Ok mama."
"What do you need to do?" Jackie asked.
"Not pinch him." Karlie replied.
"That too but what do you need to tell the baby? What do we say to people when we hurt them?"
"Sorry."
"That's right, good job. Mommy loves you, can I have a hug?"
Karlie wrapped her arms around Jackie's neck, eagerly wanting to get back on Jackie's good side.
"That's my girl, what do you say we go into the living room so you can tell Boone you are sorry?"
"Ok mama." She said as she grabbed Jackie's hand.
They walked back into the living room.
Karlie went over to Boone's bassinette.
"Me sorry me pinched you baby Boone." The little girl said.
"That's nice Karlie girl." Jackie told her.
Karlie looked at Jackie and smiled and then wandered into the other room.
Jackie was glad that that little incident was over.
She took a deep breath and then went over to Boone's bassinette and picked up the screaming infant.
It very well might be a long day!
The End!
