Chapter One
Hotori Ami
Kankurou peered around the side of the building that he was hiding behind. Hotori Ami was standing a short distance away from him, talking to two of her friends. He sighed - she was really the prettiest girl that he had ever seen.
He moved back and slumped against the building, wondering for the umpteenth time if this was really a good idea. Why would she want to talk to him, a mere five - year old who was a whole two years younger than her?
He sighed and looked down at the blood red flower in his right hand. He didn't know much about flowers but he had heard that girls liked them so he decided to get one for Ami. He thought that she should get a flower that was as pretty as she was so he had taken this one - the rarest of the few flowers that grew in the Sand Village. This flower (he didn't know its' name) grew only in the greenhouse of Sunagakure's infirmary. How he'd managed to get in there - well, we'll never know.
He frowned and stood up straight. What was he saying? He'd gone through all that trouble just to get this flower - he wasn't gonna let that go to waste. Besides, it wasn't like he was just anybody. He was the Kazekage's son and he was going to talk to the prettiest girl in the village.
Kankurou pushed himself off of the wall and rounded the corner slowly, hiding the flower behind his back as he did. He started to make his way toward her. She was standing in the same place, waving to her friends who were walking away. He stopped behind her, "Hotori - san?"
Ami stopped and turned around, cocking her head quizzically, "Yes?"
"This is for you," he pulled his arms forward then, revealing the flower.
She looked down at it in surprise, then took it from him tentatively, "Thank you. But why are you giving this to me?"
He looked down, suddenly shy, "I just...think you're kind of pretty, that's all."
She smiled brightly, lighting up her sky blue eyes, "Wait - what's your name?"
Kankurou frowned. Although, he shouldn't have been surprised - Of the Kazekage's three children, he was the least known. "Kankurou."
Still smiling, she leaned over and kissed him on the cheek, "Arigato, Kankurou - chan." She laughed softly as he gasped, his eyes widening in surprise, "Grow up a little, ne? Then come talk to me again."
He nodded slowly, clearly still stunned.
She smiled once more, then turned to go, saying as she did, "Ja ne, Kankurou - chan!"
'That was my first crush and my first kiss. The first of many...'
A/N: English translation of the title: A Million Kisses. Corny I know but I couldn't think of anything else. Btw, every chapter won't include a kiss (I know the ending makes it seem that way.)PLEASE REVIEW! I really want to know what you think. Constructive criticism is welcome, flames are not. Also feel free to leave me a suggestion or a prompt - I can't promise I'll do it but I'll try hard!
