It had appeared from nowhere, attacking from undergrowth, its black-bulbous body camouflaged by a moonless night.

The boys hadn't stood a chance; had been knocked to the ground by an enormous creature that wasn't remotely like anything they'd ever seen before.

Only moments later Sam had scrambled to his feet; blasted the enraged animal with salt-round after salt-round. But by that time the damage had already been done. Dean lay fighting for breath on the cold, damp ground his body shredded by razor sharp claws.

Sam knew they needed help, but in this remote wilderness where would they find it?

The mortally wounded creature lumbered clumsily away through the forest, leaving a meandering trail of sticky black ichor in it's wake.

Dropping to his knees, Sam gathered Dean into his arms and scanned their surroundings, seeking a way out of this remote backwoods to find his fading brother the help that he desperately needed.

"So cold S'mmy," Dean groaned.

"I know, bro'," Sam reassured, wrapping his jacket round Dean's shoulders; "just gotta get back to the Impala, but I don't have the remotest idea how."

Both brothers froze on hearing a heavy crunch in nearby undergrowth.

"It's back," hissed Sam.

"Put me down, Sam!"

Sam propped Dean up against a tree, hands pressed tight over his wound, while Sam shouldered the shotgun and waited, heart pounding.

"Holy crap!" The Winchesters spoke in perfect synchronicity as they took in the tall shaggy creature that emerged from the shadows. It cocked its head curiously and stared at them.

It wasn't anything remotely like the monster they'd wounded. In fact, it looked just like –

"It's a freaking sasquatch, Sammy!"

As the hirsute giant gently picked him up, Dean managed a tired chuckle. "Looks like your remote cousin knows you're family after all, Sammy!"
