Kathryn's Man
Disclaimer: Ok, watch the show. Read my stories. Watch the show. Read my stories. Does it even *look* like I could have anything to do with the story? Case closed.
Author's Note: This is just something I thought of after I watched "Critical Care". I luv feedback but I'm new at this so please be nice.

Kathryn Janeway rubbed the bridge of her nose. She was so sick of going 'round in circles trying to find this Gar person. Sick of listening to other people spill out their problems to her when she could go on for hours about hers. She was starting to wonder if the Doctor was worth all this trouble when she finally found someone who knew him, his girlfriend. She was only half paying attention. The girl had said something about why did she want to know where he was? Was she *interested* in him? *Hell no*, she was about to reply, *the man's butt-ugly*. But she kept her temper in check and thought for a second about how to answer.
"No, it's not that, it's just..." She grabbed Tuvok's hand, he was the nearest person, and watched his eyebrow move a hundredth of a millimeter, trying not to smile.
"I already have a man."
She saw the looks of surprise of the bridge crew and thought to herself *Too bad Chakotay's not here instead of Tuvok. They'd *really* look surprised then.* She smiled at the thought of the look on Chakotay's face if she would've done that.

Commander Chakotay was in the turbolift going to the bridge to report for duty. As he stepped out, he saw Janeway talking to some alien on the viewscreen with Tuvok's hand in hers.
"I already have a man."
He was usually good at hiding any emotion he might have, or any reaction, but at that moment, his jaw dropped. Barely noticeable, but it dropped in shock. Until he realized a split second later that that was utterly ridiculous and she was just worming her way out of a pointless conversation: why she was not interested in cat-man.
He sat down in his chair trying to shake the twinge of emotion he felt. She dropped herself wearily into her chair beside him.
"So, you've finally found yourself a man, huh?" he asked playfully. She just gave him that don't-be-ridiculous-and-I'm-going-to-die-if-I-have-to-put-up-with-one-more-diplomatic-talk look and sighed.
"You think you ever will?" he asked, seriously this time.
"Will what?" she replied, even thought they both knew she was avoiding the question.
He clarified just to humor her. "Find yourself a man."
"Maybe. If he had the qualities I look for. And if the relationship could work. For example, I couldn't have a relationship with a member of my crew..." She trailed off, her voice holding a twinge of sympathy.
She'd responded the way he knew she would, locking herself behind the iron bars of captaincy. He sighed and turned back to his work. Maybe someday...
