It's So Simple!
Goniff stepped back and rumpled his straw-colored hair with a careless hand. "I just don't get it," he said in a voice ripe with disappointment and apology.
Sighing in frustration Actor stepped forward. "It's very simple, Goniff. Watch me again."
The little cat burglar leaned in and concentrated on the Italian con man's every action, even mumbling the moves to himself as the other man worked. When the job was complete he gave his irritated instructor a nervous grin and a nod, trying to appear confident as he made his next attempt. Within moments Actor had shouldered him aside.
"No, no, no! Now watch!" Anger finally shattered Actor's professorial demeanor. Finishing the demonstration he turned stiffly on his heel, he was drawn up to his full height, his pipe tightly clamped in his teeth, his head was wreathed in smoke as he looked down his nose at the hapless cockney thief. "Incredible!" he pronounced before he stalked from the room.
"Can we go now?!" Casino asked as he pushed out of the chair where he'd been waiting impatiently
The three of them trooped out of the room and walked down the hall shoulder to shoulder.
"Jeeze! That's so simple!" Casino turned on his pocket picking teammate. "I can't believe you'r too stupid to get it."
"Oh," Chief aimed a look along his shoulder. "I don't think he's stupid."
"What d'ya mean?!" Casino shot an astonished look over the top of Goniff's bowed head.
Goniff just jammed his fists in his pockets, stuck his tongue in his cheek and raised his eyebrows as he studied his feet.
"Got Actor to fold his shirts for him again, didn't he?"
