Missing

Once again we arrived at the small meadow in the woods. It had been a bright and sunny day. Now the sun was already sinking and had almost reached the trees.

Edward sat down beside me and I leaned on his shoulder. The day had exhausted me. It was one of the days I called 'escaping Alice'. But it wasn't just that, today. I'd got a message from Billy telling me that Jacob was gone. He hadn't left a message.

"What are you thinking about?" Edward asked me. I sighed. He wouldn't be pleased to hear it.

"Jacob's gone. He didn't tell anyone."

There was a long pause until Edward finally answered.

"I know. It's my fault."

I looked up into his perfect face and my eyes met his.

"Why is it your fault?" I asked but I already had an idea of what had happened.

"I sent him an invitation to our wedding. And I thanked him for everything he did for you."

"Oh. I thought it was just the invitation."

Edward remained silent and watched the clouds moving. I gazed once again at his skin that glittered in the sunlight. Slowly I touched the icy skin. But I couldn't forget Jacob.

"Do you think he'll find someone?" I asked Edward.

He looked at me and smiled. "I'm not Alice."

"Don't remind me of her! She already clothed me like a doll for three houres today!"

"Yes and she told me, that she will find the perfect dress for you tomorrow."

"Edward!" I said in an angry tone, "did you see my wedding dress?"

"No. I changed the topic in time."

Still upset I watch him smile. I started to rip out the grass around me. Not because of the annoyance but to distract my mind.

"Why are you doing this?" Edward started and watched me alarmed.

"I'm trying to distract myself isn't that obvious?"

"No, I just see you ripping out the grass." He started to laugh and that made me smile too. Then he put his hand on mine. Cold spread from his to mine and I enjoyed it.

"If I could just know if he's happy." I sighed. "I can almost see his disappointed face and I

hate it! I like to see him laugh and smile."

"Listen, Bella, you can do nothing for him. He has to find his own way. And I'm sure he will find it."

I nodded my head in silence. Edward was right. Jacob would find a way to be happy without me. And I would be happy with Edward for eternity. That was all that mattered.

I lay down on Edwards lap to watch him again. He looked down at me and smiled. Softly he brushed through my hair and I closed my eyes. Seconds later the weariness overpowered me and I fell asleep.
